That is a classic looking image. A boy with his dog. I love the story the black and white photography tells. This portrait is truly awesome. http://www.richardsphotography.com

Photography Blues: Portraits of Legendary Blues Musicians

Photography Blues: Portraits of Legendary Blues Musicians | Brondolo james | Scoop.it

A personal project documenting blues musicians helped commercial photographer Lou Bopp land exhibitions and rediscover the passions that brought him to photography.

Mario Pires's curator insight, May 13, 2014 11:52 AM

"Unlike his commercial assignments with their attendant crews, production meetings and top-down creative direction, “Portraits of the Blues” has been a lean operation. Bopp works alone, traveling light and following his own compass. That challenge—and freedom—is part of why he finds the entire experience of pursuing his own projects so rewarding."

Lemvo Jean Abou Bakar Depara, known as Depara (1928–1997), was an Angolan-born photographer who worked in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Depara purchased his first video camera to record his wedding in 1950; four years later, he was made official photographer to the Zairian singer Franco. In 1975 he became official photographer to the National Assembly of Democratic Republic of Congo. He also took many photographs of the social scene of Kinshasa.

Mario Pires's curator insight, September 30, 2014 4:12 AM

"McLaughlin's photographs capture both the traditions and the change of the first decade of the 21st century. Using a medium format camera with traditional film negatives, she pursues the mission of a documentary photographer by preserving a piece of fading history."

A photo a day for a whole year, or a 365 project is a good training ground for photography practice, it teaches you perseverance, forces you to get visuals for ideas, and teaches you more about photographic practice that most schools.

Henri Cartier-Bresson: Living and Looking

In an intimate 1971 interview, Henri Cartier-Bresson spoke of surrealism, photojournalism and the loss of his friends Robert Capa and David “Chim” Seymour.

BRONDOLO JAMES's insight:

As Maitre I use only focal one fixed one 35mn / f2 digital technology for all my photos of street, it is the equivalent of one 50mn argentic. I pursue on this way that he(it) drew, not to copy him(it). But to photograph humbly with my sensibility. A sense(direction) of the observation sharpened is needed to stage the street.... Because every photo has to tell a story, and not serve the technique.

"Journalism is a way of noting — well, some journalists are wonderful writers and others are just putting facts one after the other. And facts are not interesting. It’s a point of view on facts which is important, and in photography it is the evocation." - Henri Cartier-Bresson
