'Aladdin' On Broadway Faces Backlash From Arab-Americans - Huffington Post

'Aladdin' On Broadway Faces Backlash From Arab-Americans
Huffington Post
... by the African-American actor James Monroe Iglehart.
Lily Keller's insight:

Get ready for a new musical that is a hit ever since it came out. Aladdin has won over even the most wary critics in previews. With previews and opening night behind them, they are ready to hit the gas pedal on their magic carpet and sail away through the night. When the started casting, the producers were going by a rule called"colorblind casting." This means that the casting directions don't pay attention to the actor's heritage. They just focus on the talent that the actor has to offer. But, since the auditions, the American Arab-Anti-Discrimination Committee has been filing complaints about the way that they casted non Arab actors as the roles. Fans are already lined up to see the show every night no matter what the cast is. In this version, they decided to revive the song about Aladdin and his buddies.

Broadway Review: 'If/Then' Starring Idina Menzel - Variety

Broadway Review: 'If/Then' Starring Idina Menzel - Variety | Broadway | Scoop.it
New York Daily News
Broadway Review: 'If/Then' Starring Idina Menzel
Variety
This smaller-than-life show can't extinguish Menzel's larger-than-life persona, but it certainly diminishes her Amazonian strengths as a performer.
Lily Keller's insight:

Idina Menzel is back for some more Broadway action. Her new musical, If/Then is about a newly divorced woman who is now starting a new life on her own. Menzel can relate to that having been divorced to Taylor Diggs since December. Reviews say that this musical is a journey of Elizabeth who wanders into this new life of hers, she has some difficulties. First, what to wear. She has to decide between many different choices in her closet. The opening set designed by Mark Wendland, is a lush green scenery in a park. This marks the new beginning for Elizabeth.Throughout the musical, you meet some of Elizabeth's friends. For example, LaChanze who plays Kate, is Liz's saucy lesbian friend who also is a kindergarten teacher. Also thereLucas who is played by Anthony Rapp, is Beth's gay best friend. This musical is a perfect example of how if you go into this business, you have to be comfortable dealing with all sorts of people. Also it shows that you need to be ready for any type of work that is thrown at yoou and you need to give it your all no matter what.

The fact that Idina Menzel is coming back to Bradway is FANTASTIC. The fact that she is in the play If/Then, is great due to the fact that she resembles the character because of her device to Taylor Diggs. I think that this would be a perfect fit not only for Menzel but also for the character she portrays, Elizabeth. As Keller mentioned in this scoop, people need to be aware of their surroundings, and to be more comfortable with nowadays generation.
Elizabeth, is now free to do whatever she would like which shows she is now enjoying life, probably like Menzel herself.
This just in! Producers Cameron Mackintosh and The Really Useful Group just announced that THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA will welcome a starry leading combination beginning Monday, May 12.

Via jean lievens
Lily Keller's insight:

Exciting news came in to Sierra Boggess and Norm Lewis. Coming in May, they will be opposite each other in Phantom of the Opera. In the 25 years Norm Lewis is the first black "Phantom." Both co-stars are very excited to be opposite each other because they have not worked together since 2008 in The Little Mermaid. Phantom fans are very excited for Sierra to return to NYC to be playing Christine Daaé. Sierra has played Christine in the London, Las Vegas and the 25th Anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall Theater. Now, she is returning to NYC for this role in May. Cameron Mackintosh has worked with Norm in the past and is very excited that he is joining the Phantom of the Opera. This is an exciting couple on stage and will be enjoyed by both the cast and the audience. So you can say that when you keep on performing, it'll lead you right back to the ones you started out with.

James Franco Pens Eloquent Essay About Broadway OF MICE & MEN Experience - Broadway World

James Franco Pens Eloquent Essay About Broadway OF MICE & MEN Experience - Broadway World | Broadway | Scoop.it
Broadway World James Franco Pens Eloquent Essay About Broadway OF MICE & MEN Experience Broadway World Although a solid grasp of the lines will help free the performer to deal with his circumstances and movement on stage, learning lines is also...
Lily Keller's insight:

Get ready because one of the great books of John Steinbeck is now on Broadway but for only 19 weeks. James Franco and Chris O'Dowd are now on Broadway in the new production Of Mice and Men. James Franco said that putting on a classic play is put on differently than a new one is produced. He also admits that he never had realized how important previews are until he did Of Mice and Men. Franco says that previews are like test screenings for a movie but with a paying audience. Fans of Franco and O'Dowd are excited to come out to see them and see what hidden talents they have stored. Not only are fans of Franco and O'Dowd are lining up to see this new play, but also fans of the book of course. Many people enjoyed the book when they read it so when they heard that it was going to be a play, they went online and got their tickets to go see.SO in order to having the acting talents, you also have to be ready to accept your challenge on Broadway and strech out your ablities.

Based on John Steinbeck's book, Of Mice and Men, is coming to Broadway with James Franco and Chris O'Dowd. Both the fans of the book and the many fans of James Franco and Chris O'Dowd are excited about this play coming to Broadway. Great numbers of people have already gotten tickets as they look forward to this play. I agree with the idea that to become successful in an acting career and demonstrate these talents, actors have to be willing to face challenges to improve their skills. To become loved by fans actors have to continue to challenge their abilities.

Aaron Tveit Makes New York City Cabaret Debut at 54 Below May 3 - Playbill.com

"Les Misérables" film star Aaron Tveit begins a sold-out, six-performance New York City cabaret engagement May 3 at 54 Below.

Via jean lievens
Lily Keller's insight:

Aaron Tveit was yet to have another six-sold out performances at 54 below. 54 below is where all of the Broadway stars go to perform numbers from maybe past shows and some random songs. Fans were dying to see him from May 3-9. Within a month's notice, all six shows were sold out. This isn't surprising since Aaron Tveit is sometimes considered the boy that should come back to Broadway. Your fans in any part of your career can help you be a better performer. SOmeonethink that your fans are a big part of any type of performing career. But, you have to have the talent to make it and to reach ouut to the audience that you want to reach out to in your time as a performer. So that means that you have to have people skills and to welcome anyone who wants to be a part of your career and you also want to reach out to everyone with a message and a certain unique style to your performance.

Aaron Tveit is a singer and actor who is loved by his fans. Many people enjoy watching him on stage because of his immense talent and this has led him to accumulate a large fan base. I agree with the author’s opinion about how a performer is only famous because of his/her fans and his/her fans are a huge part of the performer’s career. A performer may have talent, but if the performer does not have a lot of fans it is hard for the performer to advance a great amount in his/her career. Many performers need to stand out to advance in their career.
