Student know how to play school like it's a game, but if teachers change the rules, they just might appreciate it.

Often these are good solutions  .. Teachers in a classroom however are ruled by administrators and advice from school boards , doing this kind of thing works but may put one's job in peril based on what the learning landscape is in the community with the new standards and so on. People who have not run into difficulty probably don't understand the limitations of just being a teacher.

This teacher outlines 5 ways they use Google Forms at their school.  They include: flipping the classroom and checking that homework has been done; using Flubaroo to test students; PLC - personal learning checklist - students giving feedback on how they are going understanding key ideas; feedback - from students to teachers or from students to students; and measuring progress - using a 10 point scale to assess understanding at various points in the lesson.

This is Americanised, but the concept is right. You can search for public domain and Creative Commons images on Google now, and ensure you know where the material comes from. Links are much better than downloads when it comes to avoiding copyright issues.

What is interesting is one of the gurus I used to work indicated in presentation the lack of worth in teaching poetry. Today, I noticed his blog is nominated for an award,

 

Poetry requires learning to select the right words, creating spaces where silence can live, and speaking from the heart.

Thank you for sharing, Bonnie. We still know so little of how the brain works, yet we do understand that imagination and imagery both play vital parts in the learning process. Poetry is perfectly suited for both areas.
