Parts of the body that can be used as weapons, target areas, or pressure points | Brian's Science and Technology | Scoop.it
In a close combat situation, many people consider the fists as the only weapon of the body. Fists are important in close combat, but in fact, there are many other body parts that can be used as an effective weapon in a combat situation. Many parts can also be used as effective target areas or pressure points to subdue an opponent. http://wildernessarena.com/skills/combat-and-self-defense/body-parts-to-use-as-weapons-target-areas-pressure-points

As Silk Road’s Ross Ulbricht (aka Dread Pirate Roberts) heads to trial, prosecutor case filings reveal how the FBI determined Silk Road’s server location – and according to prosecutors, they didn’t have to break tor to find it. According to the FBI, Silk Road’s login page leaked the servers IP address through a misconfigured anti-abuse CAPTCHA control. http://geekslop.com/2014/fbi-testimony-reveals-determined-ross-ulbricht-owner-silk-road

Winds of change - Britain toughens up hacking laws - life sentences for some cybercrimes

Winds of change - Britain toughens up hacking laws - life sentences for some cybercrimes | Brian's Science and Technology | Scoop.it
The UK government has said it wants to hand out life sentences to anyone found guilty of a cyberattack that results in loss of life, serious illness, serious injury, or serious damage to national security (or a “significant risk thereof”. The plan, which frighteningly, is broadly written, is proposed as an update to Britain’s Computer Misuse Act 1990 and would also hand out harsher sentences to any hacker carrying out industrial (commercial) espionage. Even minor hacking crimes can result in sentences up to 14 years. http://geekslop.com/2014/winds-change-britain-toughens-hacking-laws-life-sentences-cybercrimes

How to build a belowground shelter to provide protection from the elements

How to build a belowground shelter to provide protection from the elements | Brian's Science and Technology | Scoop.it
A belowground (underground) shelter provides many advantages over an above-ground shelter. A belowground shelter can not only insulate you from the cold, it can reduce the midday heat as much as 16 to 22 degrees C (30 to 40 degrees F). A belowground shelter can also protect against enemy attacks, nuclear radiation, solar radiation, and extreme weather events. They are also soundproof and relatively fireproof. However, building a belowground shelter requires more time and effort than for other types of shelters. http://wildernessarena.com/food-water-shelter/shelter-natural-shelter/belowground-shelter

Google AdSense employee launches accusations claiming Google purposely rips off website publishers

Google AdSense employee launches accusations claiming Google purposely rips off website publishers | Brian's Science and Technology | Scoop.it
As all website operators know, Google can be a bit iron-handed (and vague) when it comes to AdSense ad policies. Website’s must follow strict guidelines on content, placement of ads, and adhere to agreements prohibiting them from running certain competing ads on their sites. And if something goes wrong or Google perceives the website owner has broken the rules, AdSense accounts are shut down – permanently. There is no resolution for the “kiss of death” either. Yesterday a self-proclaimed disgruntled AdSense employee released a bombshell, claiming that Google purposely rips off its AdSense clients through program policies designed to shutdown accounts with opportune timing (for Google). Google swiftly denied the claims. http://geekslop.com/2014/google-adsense-employee-launches-accusations-claiming-google-purposely-rips-website-publishers

Escape from zip ties? It's not as hard as you think to escape from plastic handcuffs | Brian's Science and Technology | Scoop.it
Plastic handcuffs (aka FlexiCuffs, Riot Cuffs, or Zip Ties) are popular with military and law enforcement officials when mass arrests are expected. Consisting of either two interlocking straps or a single cable tied around both wrists, they are cheaper, easier to carry, and less likely to spread communicable disease (plastic handcuffs are disposable). But zip tie handcuffs are not foolproof. Here’s how to escape from plastic zip tie handcuffs. http://wildernessarena.com/urban-survival-2/urban-hostile-areas/how-to-escape-from-zip-tie-plastic-handcuffs
