Windows 10 - rough around the edges but the future looks bright! | Brian's Science and Technology | Scoop.it
Gotta give props to Microsoft – they did well with Windows 10 both in terms of the design and implementation of the OS and especially the unique rollout via Windows update. I’s obvious that Win10 is going to be a spectacular OS in the future. Why are my comments so forward looking? Because Windows 10, in its initial iteration, is pretty rough around the edges. http://geekslop.com/2015/windows-10-rough-around-edges-but-future-for-microsoft-windows-looks-bright

Are Wild Neutron's latest attacks related to the zero-day exploit(s) in Hacking Team's drop? | Brian's Science and Technology | Scoop.it
Both Kaspersky and Symantec released reports this week pointing out the increase in attacks by Wild Neutron (aka Jripbot, Morpho, or Butterfly). WN had gone mostly dormant (or undetected?) since 2013 after hitting Apple, Facebook, Twitter, and Microsoft using zero-day Java exploits (seeded in the hacked forums of various websites) and the OSX/Pintsized Mac OS X or Windows Jiripbot backdoor. http://geekslop.com/2015/wild-neutrons-latest-attacks-hacking-team-zero-day-flash-player-exploit

How to identify Black Bear tracks and signs

How to identify Black Bear tracks and signs | Brian's Science and Technology | Scoop.it
Black bears are highly dexterous, being capable of opening screw-top jars and manipulating door latches. They are very strong with recorded cases of a black bear turning over 300 pound rocks with a single foreleg. They can run up to 25-30 mph, have excellent eyesight, and a sense of smell about seven times greater than a dog’s. They are also very good swimmers and unlike brown bears, are excellent climbers. http://wildernessarena.com/skills/tracking-and-signs/how-to-identify-black-bear-tracks-signs

Outlaw motorcycle clubs (one percenter bike gangs) and their memorable patches

Outlaw motorcycle clubs (one percenter bike gangs) and their memorable patches | Brian's Science and Technology | Scoop.it
utlaw motorcycle clubs, also known as one percenters, are biker gangs that are considered “outlaw” because they are not sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and do not adhere to their rules. Instead, one percenter clubs have their own set of bylaws which may or may not condone illegal activities. Regardless of their bylaws, their 1% status reflects an outlaw sense of pride. http://geekslop.com/2015/outlaw-motorcycle-clubs-one-percenter-bike-gang-patches

Mad Max: Fury Road's flame throwing guitar player wasn't CGI - check out the Doof Wagon (or Doof Machine) | Brian's Science and Technology | Scoop.it
The Doof Machine (aka Doof Wagon) rig was constructed from a retired military rocket launching truck to which they added a supercharged V8, six Taiko drums channeling sound from the rear through huge air conditioning ducts, a small lit stage fronted with a car grill, a huge stack of speakers (there’s over 100 working speakers on the Doof Wagon rig) and a red-onesy-suited blind guitar player hammering chords on a custom flame-throwing dual-neck guitar while dangling from bungee-cords and chains. Yes, George Miller created Mad Max: Fury Road’s flame throwing guitar/drum rig wasn’t CGI –it’s the real thing. http://geekslop.com/2015/mad-max-fury-road-flame-throwing-guitar-player-coma-doof-warrior-doof-wagon

I love the Russians. I know, strange to hear that from an American in modern day with a new “cold war” (seemingly) beginning to gain steam. Let’s say, I respect them. Their hackers in particular. Their response to a cyberattack is to launch a full-on offensive attack against the attacker, quite a different response from the Chinese who tend to just block attackers, or the Americans, who never even notice an attack is taking place. http://geekslop.com/2015/geographic-attack-vector-from-russian-cyber-counter-attack

Want to see all of the monstrous vehicles from Mad Max: Fury Road? Check out this collection of cars from the movie! | Brian's Science and Technology | Scoop.it
George Miller insisted that Colin Gibson, production designer responsible for all the cars in Mad Max: Fury Road, make all the cars in the movie not only cool, but real working functional vehicles with ultra-tuned, tweaked out engines – and Gibson delivered the goods. For the main story line, Gibson created 88 final cars, each with its own story and team of mechanics. But all told, he made 150 vehicles, many of which didn’t make it out of the desert. http://geekslop.com/2015/want-to-see-all-of-the-monstrous-vehicles-from-mad-max-fury-road-check-out-this-collection-of-cars-from-the-movie

Treating Broken Bone Fractures in a survival situation

Treating Broken Bone Fractures in a survival situation | Brian's Science and Technology | Scoop.it
There are basically two types of bone fractures: open and closed. With an open (or compound) fracture, the bone protrudes through the skin and complicates the actual fracture with an open wound. You should splint the injured area and continually monitor blood flow past the injury and only reposition the break if there is no blood flow. The closed fracture has no open wounds. Follow the guidelines for immobilization and splint the fracture. http://wildernessarena.com/skills/first-aid-health-and-first-aid/treating-broken-bones
