160th SOAR CW5s, of Black Hawk Down legacy, retire | Brass Tacks | Scoop.it
FORT CAMPBELL, KY — As the A Company, 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment hangar began to fill with people Friday, it was clear this wasn’t just another retirement ceremony.
Stephanie Katcher's insight:

You needn't understand anything about the miltary to learn from these men. Two words, DESCRETION and HUMILITY, when embodied by leadership produce an organization that is stronger from within and one in which the standards become legacy to the tribe.

The New Google Algorithm | Social Media Today | Brass Tacks | Scoop.it
If you’ve not noticed any significant changes in the last month, then it looks like you’ve escaped unscathed.
Stephanie Katcher's insight:

Non-tech types needn't understand the nature of the beast fully, however every entrepreneur should be confident in asking their SEO mangers to outline the effects of each new animal introduced into the #digitalecosphere.

In the long run, having an SEO manager who understands that each evolution is rooted in good business practices rather than just a new generation of best practices will protect more than your digital interests.

#boldBUSINESS depends on #integrity.

This Note-Taking System Turns You Into An Efficiency Expert

This Note-Taking System Turns You Into An Efficiency Expert | Brass Tacks | Scoop.it
Bullet Journal is an all-new system for note-taking that's better than any schmancy designer notebook.
Stephanie Katcher's insight:

The Bullet Journal will not turn you into an efficiency expert. It may help you out if you've struggled to organize your calendar and tasks with other systems.  Really nothing new here. Other than suggesting that GenY's & "Me" Generation has really missed out on some basic analog skills. The running calendar / executive journal (analog or digital) is pretty much a given for every business exec I've ever worked with.

Moral of the story: If you don't find a system that works for you develop one.

Tile, the world's largest lost and found.

Tile, the world's largest lost and found. | Brass Tacks | Scoop.it
Locate anything you attach a Tile to using the Tile app. It's never been easier to find your keys.
Stephanie Katcher's insight:

WOW, seriously not sure which I'm more impressed by at the moment, the sleek design and uber practicality OR the astounding success of the product's presell. The project still has 12 days left to go and they've already successfully funded it approximately 2661%!!! Yeah, it's not missing a decimal point. The goal was 20k and they've well surpassed half a million... Oh and before you think this is JUST another security device with an app, take a look at the leveraging of the tile network for notification and tracking of lost items.

Yes, yes, you would have to have more people in the network traveling in range of your lost items, but with their pre-sale numbers it's off to a good start. And I would say my years leveraging the power of networking to further the search for missing persons, any possibility is a worthy investment toward recoving what you find irreplaceable. (Do you think my friends would notice if I gave them all Tile necklaces?)

Can't wait to test drive this baby!!!

Stephanie Katcher's insight:

"Character is #1 in this program." There's a life lesson in this story for everyone. There's also a bit of feel-good; witnessing someone take an opportunity for entrepreneurship and become the Shine King, reminds us to never count anyone out.

The Changing Face of America

The Changing Face of America | Brass Tacks | Scoop.it
We’ve become a country where race is no longer so black or white.
Stephanie Katcher's insight:

When it comes to intercultural communication one of the most disappointing things to witness is the obstacle of racial-cultural bias. Racial identity creates multiple friction points in our ever complex society, simply because it attempts to ascribe identity that may have little to do with our self ascribed identity.

The accompanying Nat Geo article takes a nice look at where the melting pot of the US is at today. (Please don't presume that the USA is the only country of diversity, just understand the scope of the article comes from a US perspective.)

20 Things The Rich Do Every Day

20 Things The Rich Do Every Day | Brass Tacks | Scoop.it
So what do the rich do every day that the poor don’t do? Tom Corley outlines a few of the differences between the habits of the rich and the poor.
Stephanie Katcher's insight:

Rather than argue / justify WHY these groups perpetuate these behaviors, what if we presented people / students with the opportunity to choose their behaviors based on which group they'd prefer to be identified with?

Simply by instituting the use of a check-list, participants would already be joining the group represented by 81% of the wealthy. Preface the check-list with a singular goal, and put it in writing as a daily focus... BOOM!!  Participants have now adopted 3 out of 20 behaviors likely to lead to wealth generation.  Add reading, and the benefit of an adult to encourage these behaviors and things might just start to snowball.

Atlanta logs dramatic turnaround in homelessness

Reminding the rest of us to set goals we believe in, and face past  failures with new solutions. #makechangework

Heirarchy of needs, by embracing a basic psych principle one city is making a greater impact on multiple social and psychological conditions. It's no surprise that those subject to chronic homelessness wrestle with other issues like mental illness and chemical dependency. By addressing the primal need for security through housing these overwhelming conditions can more easily be met not just by better access to health services but by the sufferer's new definition of self.

Kudos to Atlanta for setting the bar, then superceding it.

Do You Really Understand What Your Business Model Is? | Brass Tacks | Scoop.it
It may not be what you think.
Stephanie Katcher's insight:

Great snapshot of how to sketch out and flesh out the important details without wasting energy on parts that will need to evolve as the business evolves. Truly a blueprint, more specific than a schematic and more open to interpretation than a virtual recreation.

Do You Have Too Much Stuff?

Do You Have Too Much Stuff? | Brass Tacks | Scoop.it
It took losing most of mine to help me realize what was truly important--and what wasn’t.
Stephanie Katcher's insight:

Whatever life event brings you to the point of realization of what is ENOUGH is a story worth sharing. The catalyst produces smarter financial, emotional and environmental behaviors. If only we "got it" before the flood.
