Moving At The Speed Of Culture Is The New Brand Imperative

Moving At The Speed Of Culture Is The New Brand Imperative | Branding Business | Scoop.it

A Darwinian gale continues to blast across the marketing landscape, compelling brands to adapt to how they connect with people or risk being a footnote in history. How brands connect through culture has seen seismic change over the last decade—even the last year—brought by social media and digital innovation that has revolutionized how culture impacts marketing and its role in consumer strategy. For brands to survive in this era, they have to move at the speed of culture, which requires thinking about culture differently and mobilizing in a new way.

Your Startup Is Failing — This Question Tells You Why | Branding Business | Scoop.it

So you want to start a company. You have done your research. And you know it will be hard work. You probably found the oft-cited statistic that 80 percent of startups fail. You may have even read a few post-mortems — the retrospectives company founders and investors write about their startups’ demise.

Sure,  failure  is a possibility. But so is success. Instead of focusing on the 80 percent of startups that are faltering, why not dig into what the other 20 percent are doing right?

Brand By Numbers: Building Brands With Demand Gen Strategies - Brand Quarterly

Brand By Numbers: Building Brands With Demand Gen Strategies - Brand Quarterly | Branding Business | Scoop.it

There is a lot of controversy around what place, if any, a demand generation team has in impacting your brand.  Let me state up front that I am not advocating that demand generation and awareness building are the same thing.  But demand generation, by definition, is all about driving a behavior and then, being able to effectively measure it.

So while I don’t believe that demand generation is the Holy Grail in cultivating a brand, I do believe it’s a critical component.

Experience Design: The Next Evolution Of Brand Development

Experience Design: The Next Evolution Of Brand Development | Branding Business | Scoop.it
Online expressions are influencing impressions.  This is setting the stage for shared experiences to collectively shape how people view your brand, outside of how you define it.

Have you thought about what you most often share on social media?  Usually, it’s the experiences you have in any given moment.  You reach for your smartphone and capture a moment to share with your friends, which incites engagement in real time.  Whether you realize it or not, the experiences you share contribute to your brand.  Yet, these branded moments are largely left to chance.

10 Useful Tools to Craft Beautiful Graphics for Social Media

10 Useful Tools to Craft Beautiful Graphics for Social Media | Branding Business | Scoop.it

Visuals are the currency of sharing on social media. Text-only updates can only convey so much and get so far. Here are 3 stats that prove the worth of creating graphics.

First, 66% of all social media posts are or include images.

Second, forget native visual platforms, like Instagram and Pinterest, that allow photo sharing. In 2013, Facebook became the largest photo sharing website, with its users uploading 350 million photos every day.

Third, use of images was rated as the most important social media optimization tactic, in a 2014 survey by Adobe and Software Advice.

And, it’s not just limited to social media…Content with relevant visuals also gets 94% more views than content without. Even social media platforms now focus on images in their redesigns....

brand loyalty | Tom Fishburne

brand loyalty | Tom Fishburne | Branding Business | Scoop.it

Brand loyalty is more fickle than many marketers imagine it. Marketers often overestimate the role of consumer brands in consumers’ lives. In the world of FMCG, consumers are generally loyal to a repertoire of brands, not to a single brand.

This overinflated conception of brand loyalty can lead marketers to focus too much on current customers than on attracting new ones. In 2010, Byron Sharp rattled a lot of firmly held beliefs in marketing with his book, “How Things Grow”. He asserted that brand penetration is much more important than brand loyalty.

As Byron Sharp put it at an event last year, “We are loyal switchers. We don’t feel disloyal to Kellogg’s if we buy another cereal.”...

Thanksgiving: Fact or Fiction | HISTORY.com

Thanksgiving: Fact or Fiction | HISTORY.com | Branding Business | Scoop.it

“The reason that we have so many myths associated with Thanksgiving is that it is an invented tradition. It doesn’t originate in any one event. It is based on the New England puritan Thanksgiving, which is a religious Thanksgiving, and the traditional harvest celebrations of England and New England and maybe other ideas like commemorating the pilgrims. All of these have been gathered together and transformed into something different from the original parts.”

150 Years of the Best Holiday Marketing Campaigns

150 Years of the Best Holiday Marketing Campaigns | Branding Business | Scoop.it

Despite changing demographics and consumer behaviors, the holiday season remains one of the more influential times of year to launch a campaign and seal it into holiday memory for years to come.

To do that, though, your brand needs to come up with something seriously innovative, engaging, and interesting -- something that'll resonate with your customers. This usually means lights, emotions, and celebrating family and friends.

Of course, there’s no harm is looking to the past to see which other brands and campaigns have made their way to the holiday retail hall of fame. Here, we look back on 150 years of inspirational ads and campaigns that many consumers say the holidays just wouldn’t be the same without....

What a powerful post with invaluable reminders of just what can happen when we really own our stories.

I see the transformation that's talked about here all the time with my clients. They are unsure of how to tell their stories. Or some stories remain unfinished and untold because no one was there to help them resolve what happened in their story.

But once they are able to find their voice and own their story, amazing things happen: greater confidence, presence, stature, compassion, humility, clarity of purpose, etc. This all leads to more profound results in their business. You may never tell that story to others, yet the effect is the same.

We all have stories that we don't own, that keep us from harvesting the results we really want. Time to get to work on those stories :)

Holistic Design: Working Empathetically

Holistic Design: Working Empathetically  | Branding Business | Scoop.it
The way we design is wrong.

Think about it – the end user doesn’t look at a product and think, “Wow!  I like that logo, and the product speaks to me, and so does the app, and the packaging really communicates everything together!”  Consumers see one thing, and that one thing is what drives their purchase and usage habits.  So if the final design is meant to be one cohesive unit, then why do we work in creative silos?
