New Social Media Plugin Pearltrees Offers a New Take on Web Favorites

New Social Media Plugin Pearltrees Offers a New Take on Web Favorites | Brand & Content Curation | Scoop.it
Pearltrees allows you to create a web of influence, much like you can through tweets or likes. Unlike Facebook and Twitter products, however, Pearltrees presents the information you collect from videos, blogs, and websites in “pearls” which, once collected, are automatically organized into webs, or “pearltrees,” that everyone can see and access. The pearltrees can either be centered on you specifically, as is your home pearltree, or around a concept, such as synthetic biology.

Pearltrees is doubling its traffic in two months. The curation platform is said to be nearing 20M page views per month entering June.

Pearltrees is growing at a fast pace. The curation platform is said to be nearing 20M page views per month entering June, double the april figures. Oliver Starr, the Chief Evangelist in Pearltrees will not confirm this figure, but confirms in an DM to @myrstad that Pearltrees is growing: “Our objective for June is a 50% increase over the last numbers we released”.
Pearltrees said in April that they had passed 10M page views per month.

According to Starr, “Pearltrees is the largest social curation community & 1st true human organization of the web.”.
Starr also confirms to @myrstad some of Pearltrees product and commercial plans:
- "iPad version in Pre alpha. Probable release in mid September, with an iPhone version some time after".
- “Privacy features to be implemented later this year w/our 1.0 release and launch of our freemium services.”
- "We will also be generating revenue via a freemium model in late 2012 or early 2013.”

Pearltrees is one of several featured examples in this blog post about the state of curation, “Content Curation – Growing Up and Coming of Age”.

Social curation finds an audience: Pearltrees reaches 10M pageviews | VentureBeat | Brand & Content Curation | Scoop.it
With its slick visual interface for bookmarking content, Pearltrees is unique enough that I’ve been both impressed and slightly skeptical that a mass audience will actually use it. But it looks like the site has found plenty of users.

3 Reasons Curation is Here to Stay - Oliver Starr, the Chief Evangelist in Pearltrees

3 Reasons Curation is Here to Stay - Oliver Starr, the Chief Evangelist in Pearltrees | Brand & Content Curation | Scoop.it
I think it's safe to say that Curation is here to stay. Curation is part of the DNA of the Web from its very origin, we have strong evidence that curation is at the beginning of the democratization process, and investors are providing the capital to ensure that this process continues. Given these facts I'm confident that curation is not just the flavor of the month, but a rapidly growing trend that represents both a third phase of the Internet and a huge opportunity for entrepreneurs and investors.

Aggregation isn’t that great at documenting a unique experience of an event such as SXSW in digital form. That’s where curation steps in, it can make sense of a mass of information in a useable format.
Curation can help to create a specific snapshot. And like snapshots in our photo galleries, curation creates and conserves memories.
