Apple's Missed Identity Play: "Sign In With Apple" - Louis Gray

One of the greatest tug of wars amidst leading Web companies today is that for ownership of your identity, through your personal profile, or pushing you to "Sign in with" their credentials. You may sign in with Twitter, Facebook, Google or OpenID, and enable those services to certify it's you.

One of the most successful tech companies out there who never comes up in this conversation is Apple, and it's incredible to think how easily they could have converted its army of Mac loyalists (myself included) to "Sign in With Mac", carrying the Apple flag forward as a badge of honor.

How many buttons can a website take? Twitter is testing that a little more this week with the launch of its ‘Follow button’, which allows users to follow Twitter accounts directly from a website.
It’s a simple way of getting new follows for websites, blogs and brands. It also allows sites to show just how many followers they have, which in itself can often attract new followers.

The launch of the Follow button and its rapid acceptance by a host of websites means that Twitter is getting a leg up in the battle for web real-estate. It already has a prominent tweet button and now it adds to that with a prominent follow button.
