BookBox: A book for every child in his/her language BookBox is a social enterprise that innovated the concept of "AniBooks" or animated books to support emergent literacy and language skills.

AniBooks flow from a simple fact -- children love to watch cartoons. Thus, AniBooks are animated stories for children, with the narration appearing on-screen as Same Language Subtitles (SLS).

In our conception a "book" is a reading experience that can travel in print and other audio-visual media. Our aim is to provide an online portal where children have fun and subconsciously improve their reading skills. The FREE BookBox App for the iPad is out!

in a remote area of Australia Village children Invents a new Language video interactive graphic, articles | Brainfriendly motivating comprehension resources for ESL EFL learners | Scoop.it

A linguist has concluded that a new language, with unique grammatical rules, has come into existence, created by children in a remote area of Australia.

Multimedia Graphic An Emerging Language xith examples

http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2013/07/16/science/16language.html?ref=science

@nytimesscience on Twitter

There are many dying languages in the world. But at least one has recently been born, created by children living in a remote village in northern Australia.

"Carmel O’Shannessy, back left, spends up to eight weeks a year in the village of Lajamanu. Gracie White Napaljarri, back right, is a Warlpiri speaker but children in her family speak Warlpiri and Light Warlpiri.

Carmel O’Shannessy, a linguist at the University of Michigan, has been studying the young people’s speech for more than a decade and has concluded that they speak neither a dialect nor the mixture of languages called a creole, but a new language with unique grammatical rules.

The language, called Warlpiri rampaku, or Light Warlpiri, is spoken only by people under 35 in Lajamanu, an isolated village of about 700 people in Australia’s Northern Territory. In all, about 350 people speak the language as their native tongue.

Dr. O’Shannessy has published several studies of Light Warlpiri, the most recent in the June issue of Language.

And also:

http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/asia-pacific/130715/australian-youth-make-totally-new-language-called-warlpiri

"They have been combining their local dialect of Warlpiri with "varieties of English and/or Kriol," making for a "radical restructuring of the verbal auxiliary system" over the past three-and-a-half decades, according to O’Shannessy. ...This is a legit new language, not two tongues smashed together. As The Smithsonian explains: "So, the new language, light Warlpiri, borrows some verb structures and nouns from its parent languages, but it puts these pieces together in a new way. This is in much the same was as how many of the Romance languages, such as Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Romanian, seem to borrow words from each other while being noticeably different languages.".......

Could be part of the reason why..."...Edward Snowden is having a hard time finding a government that will give him asylum. Normally, the French would be more than happy to thumb their noses at the Americans, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to if they have a PRISM program of their own.

9 Songs for Nelson Mandela : one of them: Johnny Clegg (With Nelson Mandela) - Asimbonanga - 1999

Nelson Mandela is 95 today. Here's 9 songs inspired by the former South African president: http://mojo.ly/12XxqOC"

Nelson Mandela & Johnny Clegg's sing"asimbonangua"

From http://www.motherjones.com/mixed-media/2013/06/9-songs-nelson-mandela

Before Nelson Mandela celebrated his birthdays with UN declarations & millions of singing children, he spent 27 years in prison, 18 of them on South Africa's  Robben Island. In spite of his confinement&disappearance from the world stage (the apartheid government even banned his image), Mandela inspired a generation of activists and artists inside & outside of South Africa.

On the former South African president and anti-apartheid leader's 95th birthday, let's revisit some of the songs that helped put—&keep—Mandela in the minds of millions.

The Rise of Artificial Intelligence

"Artificial intelligence is an ever evolving goal for researchers, and the object of endless fascination for writers, filmmakers, and the general public. But despite our best science fiction visions, creating digital intelligence is incredibly difficult. The universe is a very complicated place, and humans have had millions of years to evolve the ability to navigate and make sense of it.

Contemporary attempts to create AI have us looking more at how our own brains work to see how a computer could simulate the core activities that create our intelligence.

No matter how we get there, it is certain that artificial intelligence will have tremendous impact on our society and economy, and lead us down a path towards evolving our own definitions of humanity."

gay marriage A Church Divided - USA Journeyman pictures

27mn10

Transcript http://www.journeyman.tv/?lid=65369&tmpl=transcript

For downloads and more information : http://www.journeyman.tv/?lid=65369

As the U.S. Supreme Court makes two historic rulings in favour of gay marriage, this report examines a complex and controversial issue that has been debated by parliaments around the world.

"How is it that the Jesus movement has transformed into the sex police?" At the United Methodist Church's global convention in Tampa, Florida, delegates from around the world gather for a heated and emotional debate on the future of their church and its official policy towards homosexuality. "I think we will hear a resounding shoutback saying we can't do that," says Amory Peck, who is just one of more than 1500 United Methodist pastors who have pledged to perform same-sex weddings.

Conservative Methodists remain vehemently opposed, fearing that such changes fundamentally undermine the Christian doctrine. "If the church encourages this, it would be the death of the church itself", says Marie-Louise Kpokpo, a conservative delegate from the Ivory Coast.

Re-thinking Progress: The Circular Economy we can re-design the way our economy works Ellen MacArthur Foundation

Lots of interesting videos (71  ) on sustainable development on Ellen MacArthur Foundation·youtube channel made2bemade again

https://www.youtube.com/user/made2bemadeagain

"There's a world of opportunity to re-think and re-design the way we make stuff.

'Re-Thinking Progress' explores how through a change in perspective we can re-design the way our economy works - designing products that can be 'made to be made again' and powering the system with renewable energy. It questions whether with creativity and innovation we can build a restorative economy.

Find out more about the circular economy at http://www.ellenmacarthurfoundation.org and

Une vidéo pour comprendre l'économie circulaire

http://cursus.edu/institutions-formations-ressources/formation/17763/une-video-pour-comprendre-economie-circulaire/
