In findings from a study of hockey players, the researchers said their method can show just an hour after a head injury how severe the concussion is, whether there is a risk of long-term symptoms, and when the player can return to the sport

Swedish researchers have devised a blood test that they say can diagnose sports-related brain injuries, which can show the severity of a head injury in as little as an hour after the injury occurs.  The benefit of this blood test will be that doctors will know how to best treat the injury and will prevent the players from returning to sports before they are fully recovered.
