Grammarly to check and improve your grammar

Grammarly to check and improve your grammar | Bradwell Institute Media | Scoop.it

Even the most confident of native speakers can sometimes have doubts about their spelling and grammar. As for learners of English, getting their writing to a really high degree of proficiency can be a real challenge. It’s great to have a friend to turn to in moments of doubt or better still someone who will proof read your work and give you a second opinion, but if you don’t have that luxury then the Grammarly plagiarism checker is probably the next best thing.

Hope Hausman's curator insight, October 31, 2014 9:40 AM

It did! It did leave me in tears! So did the movie. I watched it with my mom and she said "it's too depressing for me". And while I agree that it's depressing, it also explains the truth of cancer through an epic love story. It also takes us through the journey of a strong girl who, even though she needs an oxygen tank to breathe, wants to do everything that every other person can do. I love this movie not only because of the relationship between Gus and Hazel, but because it shows you the struggles of having a son/daughter with cancer and the worries you need to go through. And it shows you how just because you've got this mutated cell in your body doesn't mean you can't do anything and live a good life.

Kansas teen uses 3-D printer to make hand for boy - KansasCity.com | Bradwell Institute Media | Scoop.it
Mason Wilde has always had a passion for figuring out how things work. But what the 16-year-old Louisburg High School junior made about two months ago changed the life of a family friend’s 9-year-old son who was born without fingers on one hand. Using a 3-D printer at the Johnson County Library, Wilde made a prosthetic hand that opens and closes and can even hold a pencil. “He’s awesome,” said Matthew, thrusting his mechanical hand high above his head.

I wanted to scoop this bullying infographic as well because it provides bullying prevention techniques that I think are really valuable. It also provides the statistic that 35.5% of students believe schools can help prevent bullying, so I hope with these prevention techniques will encourage schools to increase intervention and supervision.

Soren Andrews's curator insight, May 12, 2014 9:05 AM

This is a very good article because apart from having a lot of information, it has lots of pictures and statistics.  Also, it uses many simple to understand  pictures and charts.  If you need numbers in bullying, this article is just what you need.

Erin Ryan's curator insight, October 24, 2015 5:53 PM

We use Olweus Bullying Prevention program in our region. It is a school and district wide effort to end bullying, promote healthy peer relationships, and to help students deal with bullying. The program teaches students through frequent class meetings. Videos and discussions are used to help students problem solve through those tough situations they encounter at school. Elementary students make pledges to their school communities in regards to not watching or letting bullying happen, treating others nicely, not talking badly about others, etc. The conversations are a bit more in depth at the middle and high school levels. The goal is to provide children of all ages with  tools and strategies to help them deal with bullying, whether they are being bullied or are witnessing it. In our schools, we have yet to survey students since implementation so the impact of the program is yet to be foreseen. What is clear, is that schools must do something to proactively prevent bullying. Consequences for bullying should be clearly stated in handbooks with parents and students understanding the seriousness.

15+ Ways of Teaching Every Student to Code (Even Without a Computer) - Edutopia

15+ Ways of Teaching Every Student to Code (Even Without a Computer) - Edutopia | Bradwell Institute Media | Scoop.it
"According to Code.org, 90 percent of U.S. schools are not teaching any computer science. Eyebrows have been raised this year as the U.K. passed a plan to educate every child how to code. In my opinion, parents of every student in every school at every level should demand that all students be taught how to code. They don't need this skill because they'll all go into it as a career -- that isn't realistic -- but because it impacts every career in the 21st century world. Any country recognizing that will benefit in the long term. Here's how you can start."
