Grammarly to check and improve your grammar

Grammarly to check and improve your grammar | Bradwell Institute Media | Scoop.it

Even the most confident of native speakers can sometimes have doubts about their spelling and grammar. As for learners of English, getting their writing to a really high degree of proficiency can be a real challenge. It’s great to have a friend to turn to in moments of doubt or better still someone who will proof read your work and give you a second opinion, but if you don’t have that luxury then the Grammarly plagiarism checker is probably the next best thing.

8 Tips for an Awesome Prezi

We have taught several Prezi classes this year. The students seem to love this tool and so do judges at media festival. The Prezis we turn in usually go far - we have 2 projects going on to the state competition next month! If you are looking for a great tool for your next lesson, consider Prezi!

value added advice for beginners like me!

Dr. Pamela Rutledge's curator insight, April 4, 9:25 PM

Prezi can be very effective but they are fundamentally based on creating perceptions of movement.  Estimates in WSJ that 25%-40% of population has motion sensitivity depending on the mode of transportation.  That may be simplistic but as a media psych prof, I have seen more than my share of over-exuberant Prezis whipping in and out and around such that I could barely make it through.  (Yes, I'm one of those 25%-40%ers)  So a word of caution to presenters.  If presentations are about your audience, keep in mind that restraint applies to more than the number of words per slide.  There are lots of ways to lose an audience.  None are good.  This is one of the worst.

An intriguing little infographic documenting the history of technology and its application to the education system.  Interesting how the use of radio or white boards (as opposed to chalk boards) are considered technological "improvements" or were seemingly revolutionary at the time.  Someone somewhere was a pioneer for bringing the radio or a cassette tape into the classroom.  I thought the wireless numbers for American schools was high and the use of iPads low.  Perhaps iPads are like Smart Boards, in that they seem really cool, but can be challenging to use effectively on a daily basis.  My interest is in cloud computing, web-based application, BYOD, and how to improve LMS.  What I'm always wondering is, what's coming next and how will it alter the use of technology in the classroom?

Kelly Saiz's curator insight, April 15, 8:29 AM

This is a question that I have wondered about. While this graphic gives an abbreviated, visual response to the question, it provides key insights into the issue.

The image cleverly illustrates the signs of narcissism before depicting the negative effects of social media, which include ADHD, depression and narcissistic personality disorder and addiction, among others.

It would be interesting to know the reasons WHY "People who use Facebook the most tend to have more narcissistic or insecure personalities" and why "those who [score] higher in narcissism also posted more often on twitter". While this post points out yet another important issue surrounding social media that cannot be ignored by business professionals and users alike, it does not provide enough information for the reasoning behind its statements.
