It's interesting to read Tim Cook's response. The stats, even so, are huge. Tablets still have a little way to go until they completely replace laptops or desktops. Then again, for power users like technical communicators and programmers, there will always be a need for laptops and desktops. The everyday user can easily get by using only a tablet, based on my own experiences. Of course, I will admit openly that I'm a devout iPad fan, and it's definitely made its mark, and continue to be the leader, as this article points out. Its ease of use makes it popular. Read this, and tell me what you think.

Darci J Harland's insight:

This middle school student wanted to address the amount of waste that goes into all the handouts he had to do. While others focus on paper, he knew how expensive ink is, and so carefully studied 4 different fonts; This is an example of a simple research idea, that has the power to make a difference! His research says Garamond font, can save government millions on ink! #ScienceFair #STEM  This CNN article also features one of my favorite journals JEI (Journal of Emerging Investigators).

The Anatomy of Project Based Learning Process | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

The Anatomy of Project Based Learning Process | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Educational Technology | Scoop.it

Project based learning is “ an instructional approach built upon authentic learning activities that engage student interest and motivation. These activities are designed to answer a question or solve a problem and generally reflect the types of learning and work people do in the everyday world outside the classroom.” taken from PBL Online.

Projects and activities are the keys to a better understanding of PBL. They are no longer tasks that students need to finish after a traditionally-taught unit but rather a set of learning experiences and tasks that guide students in inquiry toward answering a central question, solving a problem, or meeting a challenge. Research has clearly proved that projects that are well-designed and based on students experiences improve students motivation to learn, help them see how school connects to the outside world by making learning relevant and meaningful, and promote greater civic participation and global awareness. There is a section here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning packed full of resources and materials to help you learn more about PBL, check out HERE.

In today's post I am sharing with you an interesting graphic created by Syd to help students and their parents visualize the anatomy of a project at her school. I invite you to have a look and probably repurpose it for your won teaching situation.

15 Technologies That Were Supposed to Change Education Forever

15 Technologies That Were Supposed to Change Education Forever | Educational Technology | Scoop.it
Every generation has its shiny new technology that's supposed to change education forever. In the 1920s it was radio books. In the 1930s it was television lectures. Here in the second decade of the 21st century, it seems the Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) is the education tech of tomorrow. Let's hope it pans out better than previous attempts.
Darci J Harland's insight:

This article nicely uses images to show how over time we've imagined educating changing. Some are eerily close to what we do now, the question is whether or pedagogy is changing appropriately!

Take notes by hand for better long-term comprehension | Educational Technology | Scoop.it
Dust off those Bic ballpoints and college-ruled notebooks: research shows that taking notes by hand is better than taking notes on a laptop for remembering conceptual information over the long term. "Our new findings suggest that even when laptops are used as intended -- and not for buying things on Amazon during class -- they may still be harming academic performance," says a psychological scientist involved in the study.
