Fatima Zohra Chaoui's insight:

This is a type of article that I am personally not interested in. Why? -Because there are no facts to prove what is being stated. The news is supposed to report facts rather than assumptions.

Official: Suspect says Iraq, Afghanistan drove Boston bombings

Official: Suspect says Iraq, Afghanistan drove Boston bombings | Boston Bombing and the Media | Scoop.it
Residents and business owners near the site of the Boston Marathon bombings are slowly being let back in Tuesday. (RT @CNN: Suspect cites wars in Iraq, Afghanistan as motivating factors behind Boston bombing, U.S.
Fatima Zohra Chaoui's insight:

Apart from the valid points this articles makes, it also proves how the media can sometimes be confusing (along with being misleading, ofcourse). Some news channels refer to the bombing as a terrorism act while others remove it from that category. Therefore, it is the one who can control what information the public has access to.

What was the point of this article? Why does this article make it seem like since she is the suspect's wife, she is supposed to have negative characteristics?

Fatima Zohra Chaoui's insight:

It feels like media companies are ultimately trying to compete with one another and put a price on news. By doing so, they fall into the hole they dug. This article by the New York Post is the perfect example of this recurring incident. The NY post might have thought that it would be gaining more audience by scooping the "latest" news first. However, it is losing its credibility and by that, the audience.

Fatima Zohra Chaoui's insight:

Finally someone made a smart comment about corporate media. It is true, being the first one to publish a certain kind  of news is irrelevant if you are going to publish something misleading and inaccurate. What happened to CNN's code of ethics?

Only Racism Can Prevent Terrorism, Says Idiot Congressman

Only Racism Can Prevent Terrorism, Says Idiot Congressman | Boston Bombing and the Media | Scoop.it
Former Republican Rep. Joe Walsh from Illinois aka that asshole we can always trust to say ridiculous things, thinks the U.S. needs to start racial profiling "young Muslim men," who Walsh described as "our enemy" in war.
Fatima Zohra Chaoui's insight:

Another example of bias and anti-Islam instead of terrorism.

Boston Bombing Suspects Put Chechnya in Spotlight

Boston Bombing Suspects Put Chechnya in Spotlight | Boston Bombing and the Media | Scoop.it
A look at Russia’s restive North Caucasus region, to which the Boston bombing suspects are closely tied.
Fatima Zohra Chaoui's insight:

This article clearly proves how the media has managed to encourage people to create and believe in stereotypes. Because the suspects were from Chechnya should not intimidate Chechnya and treat it as a place that generates terrorists.

Why Terrorism Works - Postmasculine

Why Terrorism Works - Postmasculine | Boston Bombing and the Media | Scoop.it
A few thoughts about the Boston explosions yesterday. And why we should take a deep breath and make sure we're not indulging the wrong emotions.
Fatima Zohra Chaoui's insight:

Some brilliant points are made in this article. Bombing incidents, which are always considered as terrorism even if they are not, are given the most importance in terms of news coverage. Other tragic incdents; not that much. Death and injuries are tragic in any form they take.

Still Think Islam Is A Religion Of Peace? – You Won’t After Seeing This

Still Think Islam Is A Religion Of Peace? – You Won’t After Seeing This | Boston Bombing and the Media | Scoop.it
David Wood of “Answering Muslims” to the claims of the Qur’an, in context, to demonstrate the lie that is being perpetrated the Islam is a religion of peace
Fatima Zohra Chaoui's insight:

This man does make valid points. In other words, all of this would make sense to non Muslims who cannot manage to create their own opinions because they are not well informed about the whole concept of Islam. What this man is doing is similar to analyzing a cropped picture- one who does not see the whole picture can indeed fall into the trap of believing all of this. Furthermore, what Muslim terrorists do is take verses and conducting them in the most atrocious literal form. "Muslim terrorists" should NOT fall into the category of Islam because in case you forgot, the worl 'Islam' means peace. As for the media, of course they are being cautious on NOT blaming Muslims becayse they are initially responsible in feeding people the stereotype of "Islam=Terrorism".

Islam itself is one giant sleeper cell

RT @BryanJFischer: Islam itself is one giant sleeper cell: http://t.co/5nJGjOqxZY via @youtube
Fatima Zohra Chaoui's insight:

I understand that the United States encourages freedom of speech. However, it is doing a poor job on educating some of its people. How can a person like this be broadcasted live on a radio talk show?

Dear Mr. Fischer,

If you are going to discuss such a delicate issue, then please get your facts straight. You are confusing the purest form of Islam with fundamentalism. "OUR God does not tell us to go kill people". Your points of view, that are backed up by assumptions rather than evidence (try reading an introductory version of the Quran for starters) make YOU on the same level of ignorance as the so-called "Muslim terrorists".

The Boston bombing produces familiar and revealing reactions

The Boston bombing produces familiar and revealing reactions | Boston Bombing and the Media | Scoop.it
Glenn Greenwald: As usual, the limits of selective empathy, the rush to blame Muslims, and the exploitation of fear all instantly emerge
Fatima Zohra Chaoui's insight:

For the past week, I havebeen reading comments of the public made on articles that spoke about the Boston bombing. To be honest, I would say 90% of them were atrociously bias towards Arabs/Muslims. Th dubbing (sandmonkeys, n******, animals) was the least of my worries. What worries me the most is the way we, as a public and mass media consumers, are getting used to associating what looks like acts of terror and terrorism in itself with Muslims and Arabs. Again, is media the one to blame?
