Bordeaux Wines | What You Don't Know About Bordeaux (VIDEO) | Wines of Bordeaux and south-west France | Scoop.it

Did you know that you can get an excellent bottle of Bordeaux for less than 15 bucks? Most people associate Bordeaux wine with a high price tag, but the truth is the majority of wines produced in Bordeaux are not First Growths or Grand Crus. They are from small producers making affordable and accessible wines that pair with every occasion from a typical Tuesday night to Thanksgiving dinner.

En Primeur: Bordeaux 2014 is a classicist’s delight

En Primeur: Bordeaux 2014 is a classicist’s delight | Wines of Bordeaux and south-west France | Scoop.it
Based on barrel tastings, 2014 is a welcome vintage after two terribly average years (2011, a slightly better 2012) and one downright ugly (2013, except for the whites). It may remind old timers of 1975. After three mediocre vintages, finally something good came.
DiscoverVin's insight:

Let's hope 2014 turns out to be as good as early indications suggest.

Robert #Parker interview: The world's top #wine critic on tasting 10,000 bottles a year, absurd drinking notes and New World wannabes | Wines of Bordeaux and south-west France | Scoop.it
I was tasting at least 10,000 wines a year until recently – which makes around 350,000 altogether. That's a bare minimum. I'm still standing and my liver function is still OK. I take milk thistle for my liver and try to drink three times as much water to wine. If I've been tasting, I don't usually drink wine in the evening.

The Bordeaux wine region is a natural wonder, with human help

The Bordeaux wine region is a natural wonder, with human help | Wines of Bordeaux and south-west France | Scoop.it
SOME fine wine regions are born into greatness, products of a superb natural environment and climate that, given a great variety or two, create wines for the ages. Others, equally spectacular, are a product of circumstance. Champagne, long known for its mediocre dry wines, only rose to the top of the heap once the art of sparkling wine production had been perfected.
DiscoverVin's insight:

Nice piece in the Australian mainstream media about the influence of man on the Bordeaux landscape and some good value Chateaux.
