BookBub Builds a Book Marketing Platform | Digital Book World | Electronic Publishing | Scoop.it

I first heard about eBook direct marketing company BookBub in February 2013. I was introduced to founder Josh Schanker at the O’Reilly Tools of Changeconference. We had an excellent talk and I remember walking away from the meeting impressed and that his company would be successful. Then a month later, BookBub hit 1-million subscribers. They also were getting a lot of press because Goodreads had just sold themselves to Amazon, and many in the industry were looking for alternative ways to promote their books. Goodreads remains stronger than ever, but BookBub has also established itself.

This is awesome.  So much theory of teaching collides with the practice.  This could be a great way for teachers in the trenches share their experience and get genuine change in education happening.

Denise Weinhoeft-Renfro's comment, July 5, 2013 3:17 PM
This is truly a great tool in my estimation, but theory and reality also collide with technology. If you are not 1:1 then the potential of the app is not getting used in the best way that it can.
Peter Pappas's comment, July 5, 2013 3:22 PM

Why Genre Rules e-Books, and What the Big Publishers Are Doing About It

Why Genre Rules e-Books, and What the Big Publishers Are Doing About It | Electronic Publishing | Scoop.it
The future of book publishing is increasingly digital -- and increasingly tilted towards genre fiction.

Via Digital Gloss
more...
Digital Gloss's curator insight, June 28, 2013 1:14 PM

Though some people suggest that readers of genre fiction prefer e-books because of the anonymity factor (that is, people can't see what you're reading), this article gives more convincing arguments about why this might be true: "But the digital delivery system also offers immediacy and ease of access for material that often is serialized and written to make you want to know what happens next, as soon as possible. Liate Stehlik, senior vice president and publisher at HarperCollins, subscribes to that idea, at least partially. Genre fans, she says, became “early adopters” of the digital format because e-books are the optimal format “for people who want to read a lot of books, quickly and frequently. Digital has replaced the paperback, certainly the paperback originals. I think the audience that gravitated to eBooks first really was that voracious reader, reading for entertainment, reading multiple books in a month across multiple genres.”"
