Florida deputy and his girlfriend arrested with 30 marijuana plants

Florida deputy and his girlfriend arrested with 30 marijuana plants | BloodandButter | Scoop.it

LEE COUNTY, FL - Former Lee County deputy Piotr Urbanski arrested for not only possessing marijuana but growing it with his girlfriend Shannon Clancy on their lanai.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office found dried marijuana in the kitchen, two pipes for smoking, and 23 live plants on the lanai. Seven additional plants were found in a small trash can on the porch.

Sheriff Mike Scott tells us the couple claims they had a reason for growing it: "His story was that he doesn't use it and she does for medicinal purposes and whatever. It doesn't matter. It's illegal it's a crime," said Scott.

Urbanski was only with the Lee County Sheriff's Office for about a year and now he's out -- Sheriff Scott wants to reassure the community when people commit crimes, they go to jail.

When he applied to LCSO, Urbanski admitted he used Marijuana three times in 2007 for experimentation.

Sheriff Scott says his office does very thorough background checks, but in the future those might include going to the applicant's home and checking that out as well...

Pre-med Univ. of South Florida student charged with first degree murder for tricking girlfriend into taking abortion pill

Another horrendous crime out of Florida... This pre-med student, John Welden, sent his pregnant girlfriend to see his OB/GYN father. Welden told his girlfriend that his father diagnosed her with an infection requiring her to take antibiotics. Welden swapped the anibiotic pill for Cytotec, the abortion pill. He instructed his girlfriend to take the "antibiotics" three times a day for a week. His girlfriend only learned about the abortion pills when she showed up to the emergency room a week later, having aborted the pregnancy. Welden's girlfriend was six weeks pregnant and communicated her intent to carry the pregnancy to term to all of her friends and family. Federal authorities have since charged 28-year-old Welden with first degree murder and tampering. Normally, a 6 week old fetus would not be considered viable, but federal law provides otherwise. Under the Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2004 (18 USC 1841), an "unborn child" is defined as “member of the species homo sapiens, at any stage of development, who is carried in the womb.” The Act further provides that if an unborn child is killed during the commission of a federal crime, it will constitute murder. Here, Welden's tampering with his girlfriend's prescription (a federal crime) allows authorities to tack on a first degree murder charge. Welden faces life in prison for his crimes. It is not clear what role, if any, his OB/GYN father played in the commission of these crimes.

No, You Cannot Substitute ‘Sex’ For ‘Rape’

No, You Cannot Substitute ‘Sex’ For ‘Rape’ | BloodandButter | Scoop.it

by TARA CULP-RESSLER

(Credit: Change.org)

On Friday afternoon, the Associated Press ran a story about a young woman in Washington state who alleges that her high school’s officials failed to protect her from a 16-year-old boy who raped her on school property, and even allowed the boy to remain in the same classroom with her after her guardian reported she was being harassed by him. The school continues to deny most of her claims, and she is seeking at least $400,000 in damages.

In its headline about the story, the AP chose to characterize the encounter — which took place in a bathroom at the high school — as “restroom sex”:
