I often hear Japanese students are shy in an EFL classroom, and I myself have long thought so.
However, I began to suspect that those seemingly shy students are not always that shy. So this semester I decided to try increasing interaction in class, especially in the first couple of weeks.
"One of the things that my students love the most on our KidBlog are our weekly blog challenges. And while these challenges are in sense homework, they always have the opportunity to do them at school, and get enough time to do it without being a hassle. Over the past two years we have had quite a lot of fun with these, so why not share for all you blogging with your students. Feel free to borrow or change to suit your kids."
"The following programs and services may prove useful in finding language exchange (eTandem) partners. In addition, many of the programs communication programs listed above offer user directories that allow users to search for persons living in a particular country and/or speaking a particular language."
My 1st year EFL students talked about their Golden Week holidays in their first posts, and are getting to know how to leave a comment to each other's post. I'd very much appreciate it if you could drop by and leave comments.
I'll ask them next week how they want to have their errors corrected. It's one my goals this year to find some good ways to give corrective feedback.
