Like curation, storytelling is a vital part of a brand's strategy. It doesn't matter whether you own a business or represent yourself, people relate the best when emotions are involved.

The example in Ted Karczewski are from some of the biggest brands in the world. However, they all show what we, as consumers, really want. We want the characters in every story to be relatable.

The best way to achieve that? Make your customers the heroes!

Nadhirah Aljffri's curator insight, September 29, 2014 6:09 AM

I find the article to be spot-on. I do believe that having an emotional bond with a brand is good for business. This is because consumers want to have an emotional bond or they can relate to the brand in an emotional way. This will will make them have a better relationship and always choose to be loyal to the brand.

3 TED Talks That Uncover the Secrets of Storytelling

3 TED Talks That Uncover the Secrets of Storytelling | Blogging | Scoop.it

"When I decided to write an article on brand storytelling inspired by TED talks, I went about it all wrong.

Scouring YouTube for tactics, elements, and components of brand storytelling, I was aiming to find five or ten (or 17) actionable tips that you can use to tell you brand’s story.

I was already boring myself to death and I hadn’t even begun to write.

We have all heard (ad nauseam) about the “power of brand storytelling,” and I know that I have read more than one blog that spits off a numeric list of tips that I just “can’t live without” as a content marketer.

I began to get curious about what pulls me, personally, into a story. What is it that moves me so much that I become an advocate of the brand/person/cause that is being talked about in the story? What is that secret sauce in brand storytelling that activates the magic button inside each of us, firing up our passion?"

Stories need to be captivating from the beginning or you'll bore the pants of your audience, whether it's fiction or brand storytelling.

Very good POV on story and some interesting TED Talks - especially Nancy Duarte. Worth your time!

Karen Dietz's curator insight, July 23, 2014 6:37 PM

Fellow curator Gregg Morris discovered this gem for his Story and Narrative curation and I thought you should know about it too.

3 TED talks are featured here and they are all worth watching. The first one from Andrew Stanton on the Clues To A Great Story I've curated before. It's a keeper.

The second one from JJ Abrams is new for me -- and I love it. It's all about adding mystery into the storytelling toolbox. As the author of this post Julie Newmark says, "For example, creating puzzles to solve, challenges and even small adventures within your brand stories, you are involving customers and inspiring them to use their minds together as they seek to discover more. Engagement and connection to your brand is the point here and using mystery creates the potential for taking it all to a deeper level." Right on!!

And the third video from Nancy Duarte focuses on one of the most powerful dynamics for moving people to action -- before and after pictures.

Have fun with these and incorporate these lessons into your business storytelling.

Should You Repost Your Blog Content on Other Websites? A Data-Driven Answer | Blogging | Scoop.it

Reposting content on third-party websites has been a hot topic ever since LinkedIn started allowing members to write posts for the platform. Many people have been re-sharing their content verbatim there.

Neil Patel addresses the issue well in this post. It's backed by personal experience, which makes it a very valuable case study.

Patel offers three suggestions:

- Rewrite the content

- Talk to the site owner

- Post the content on the other site only

He also talks about the rel=canonical tag.

Very interesting!

(From the article): Social Media is one of those channels where you are rewarded for helping others. If you are able to offer assistance with any of your current or potential followers, oftentimes that favor is returned. If you notice something on your feed that users might find useful or helpful, share that information with them as it will only strengthen your relationship with them. Social Media is all about social connections and nothing makes others want to share your information more if they know you will reciprocate.

The Best (And Worst) Times To Post On Social Media

The Best (And Worst) Times To Post On Social Media | Blogging | Scoop.it

Different social media sites offer different virtues for your business. Here's how to optimize each one based on when you post.

We get it, managing your business's social media accounts can be daunting: from tweaking tweet lengths to mastering Facebook tone, to using the right hashtags at the right times.

But what savvy social media users know is that there's a science to getting it right--if you follow certain parameters, you’re almost guaranteed to get the results you were working toward. All it takes is some knowledge and forethought, and anyone can be well on their way to posting engaging content.

I loved this article. It shows the best and worst times to post on social media engines. This is to help generate most traffic. Post with pictures generate the most feedback and likes. Posts for Facebook on the weekends was the worst time to post. However, for Twitter the best time to post is Monday through Thursday 1-3 pm. On Friday, people are traveling, hanging with friends, and do not have a lot of time to view on social media. This is important to make sure with our projects that we are posting during the week, not on Fridays. As one can see, this article is great to pinpoint effective ways of posting on social media in order to draw traffic to the site. For instance, no one checks LinkedIn on Fridays. People are winding down or getting ready for a big weekend, LinkedIn would be the worst to post on a Friday.
