The inclusion of integrated hardware sensors in mobile devices provides the possibility of augmenting learning activities with sensor data. Technology enhanced learning activities, such as those created with the mobile authoring tool in this project, capture spatially distributed physical sensory data, such as video, photos, audio recordings, and GPS locations. Vogel, Spikol, Kurti, and Milrad (2010) state that there are ongoing research challenges related to integrating this collected sensor data to support learning but conclude that “mobile learning can best provide support for learning in context” (p. 65). Thus, the proposed tool must promote capturing contextual experiences via multimedia examples of the environment and their locations. Context is defined as any information illustrating the situation of a learner such as location, time, activities, and surrounding environmental characteristics (Vogel, Spikol, Kurti, & Milrad, 2010). Education 3.0 is a term that has been used to describe a level of transformative capabilities and practices for education in the 21st century.
Professor Derek Keats, of the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa,[1] and his co-author Jan Philipp Schmidt, FreeCourseWare Manager at University of the Western Cape, South Africa, used the term in 2007 to apply to the use and impact on education of collaborative and personalized learning, reusable learning content, and recognition of prior learning (RPL) whether by formal or informal means.
Keats' explorations were focused on higher education.[2] Dr. John Moravec at the University of Minnesota broadens this view, and describes Education 3.0 as a product necessary to support what he labels "Society 3.0" - a near future paradigm of social co-constructivism, ambient technology, and propelled by continuous innovation at all levels of society.[3]

I love color, I have to be reigned back when designing learning however. It is important to remember when designing with color for learning (in most cases, but not this example) keep it to around three colors per screen, try to repeat the same colors throughout and colors should have meaning.
Can you think of some other interpretations of the colors besides the ones listed by this author? How about stoplights? Red, yellow and green have different meanings then the ones listed. How about hot and cold? which colors would you pick to represent those?
Consider your audience as well, for example, numbers: If your audience is international, consider using olympic medals to represent first, second or third. If the audience is in the United States, I might think about the color of ribbons.

Remember however that the use of icons and infographics needs to take into account principals of Universal Design so that people of all ability levels can "read", understand and use. JE Sleeth OPC Accessible Design consultants since 1991

I disagree Jane. It would be great if everything were able to be accessible to everyone, but that is simply not the reality. We can't homogenise visual art into an accessible form, simply because some people can't see the fine details. That would be as wrong as never considering visually impaired persons, for example.

Way back in 1984, psychologist Benjamin Bloom reported some shocking study results: Students who engaged in individualized tutoring with a teacher scored 98 percent better than the average performance of students in the traditional classroom. This led Bloom to propose his famous “2 Sigma Problem”: How can we accomplish the same results using methods other than peer tutoring, which are “too costly for most societies to bear on a large scale”? I definetely like this approach to accessing students performance.. No Wrong Answers As he noted in his TEDGlobal talk, Schocken believes that the traditional grading system is “degrading”—and he’d rather talk about a more positive approach to teaching that he calls “upgrading.” This means rejecting the traditional focus on correct answers. Instead, Schocken thinks we should encourage mistakes. In his app-based learning environments, if you give the wrong answer, nothing horrible happens. “We never say ‘incorrect,’ ‘wrong,’ and so on. Instead, when students give answers that aren’t the right ones, we use a non-verbal and neutral visual gesture, like vibrating the image a little,” Schocken said. This implies something like “nice try, keep trying, I’m waiting patiently, take your time.” And, after two wrong answers are entered in a row, the program gives a tip leading to the correct direction. We love this Learning Pyramid! Peer to peer learning has the HIGHEST retention rate. We’re very excited about three new Peer Learning Groups - organized with artist Caroline Woolard as part of Artists Experiment- starting later this month at MoMA. Each group will look at one of three topics -art and economy, art and authorship, and art and process- and spend 8 sessions learning together. Groups can visit the galleries, take an off site trip, have a guest speaker, and choose their readings and discussion topics. We’re looking forward to see what comes out of these sessions!

Today’s focus technique for visual art is actually a combination of two separate strategies: Tessellations and Digital Photography.
For those of you who are not familiar, tessellations are mosaics using small squares to make repetitive patterns. This is a wonderful way for us to connect the arts with Common Core math in a very purposeful and authentic way. In terms of digital photography, much of the focus is placed composition and using the rule of thirds.
By combining Tessellations with Digital Photography, we have a rich and relevant technique that many students can engage with on multiple levels of understanding.

When you’re leading your students through process-based learning, it’s important that they go through the steps of inquiry in which to develop their own learning journey.
Students must be able to find and craft interesting questions in order to truly be invested in what and how they learn. Plus, when you focus on the question, the process by which you go about answering that question unfolds as naturally as possible.
But many times, the problem becomes how to get students (and sometimes teachers!) to ask interesting questions. How do you get your students to go beyond those surface-level questions to the ones that require some research, analysis and synthesis to develop an “answer”? Often, it’s by following and teaching the Creative Process itself.

With the proliferation of mobile devices such as laptops, tablets and smartphones, the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend is increasingly spreading in Australian schools, transforming the way students learn and how, where and when they consume educational information.
The BYOD strategy in schools has been at the centre of many debates around whether students should be allowed to bring their own smartphones and tablets - especially now that the laptops supplied by the federal government have reached the end of their lifespan. And while there may be naysayers, the benefits of schools adopting a BYOD strategy are numerous - for schools and for students.
The reality is most kids now carry a mobile device in their backpacks and they interact with technologies such as tablets, smartphones, laptops, the internet and social networking sites at home as part of daily life. Students have access to various resources online, beyond the typical classroom and hardcopy textbooks and they can access them through any mobile device anytime, anywhere. With the new generation of kids being exposed to mobile devices basically from birth, there is an expectation educational institutions will allow access to these technologies to support learning in the classroom.
