Central Florida to Offer MOOC on Blended Online Learning | blended learning | Scoop.it

The University of Central Florida (UCF) announces the second offering of its popular MOOC (massive open online course) for blended learning faculty and designers: BlendKit2012. Based around the open-licensed BlendKit Course instructional materials, BlendKit2012 will run as a five-week cohort (from Monday, September 24 to Monday, October 29, 2012) facilitated by UCF’s Dr. Kelvin Thompson and Dr. Linda Futch. Course components include regular communications from facilitators, weekly readings, hands-on tasks, a variety of real time and asynchronous interaction opportunities, and weekly webinars with experienced blended learning instructors.

Research publications on Massive Open Online Courses and Personal Learning Environments

Research publications on Massive Open Online Courses and Personal Learning Environments | blended learning | Scoop.it

People interested in Massive Open Online Courses will probably be aware of the research by Helene Fournier and me on Personal Learning Environments and MOOCs. We carried out research in the MOOC PLENK2010 (The MOOC Personal Learning Environments Networks and Knowledge that was held in the fall of 2010). The data collected on this distributed course with 1641 participants has been massive as well. Its analysis has kept us and some fellow researchers busy over the past year. The research has resulted in a number of publications and I thought it might be useful to post links to all of our journal articles, conference papers and presentations that were published in relation to PLEs and MOOCs in one space. Each publication looks at the data from a different perspective, eg, requirements in a PLE, self-directed learning, learner support, creativity.

RSC e-Assessment: #MOOCs: will losing the live be a loss?

RSC e-Assessment: #MOOCs: will losing the live be a loss? | blended learning | Scoop.it

I've been thinking about the implications for teaching, learning and assessment if the live element of teaching is no longer there. There do not appear to be any synchronous activities in the xMOOC I will be taking next year with Coursera and if this trend towards teaching via MOOCs and asynchronous activities continues, I wonder what, if anything, will be lost?

'I am currently doing some re-designing of the JISC RSC Scotland's online courses, and with all the discussion around MOOCs at the moment, this has prompted some questions for me about the synchronous, live aspect of teaching and how / if it needs to feature in online courses.'...
