This year’s “The Learning Curve” report from Pearson takes a look at education across the globe. One of the main things the report does is rank the world’s educational systems (which we’ll talk about in a different post). What I find even more interesting is the focus on what skills current students need to meet the ever changing needs of the global market, and some potential ways to address shortcomings in our collective educational systems.

Interesting that Pearson feels compelled to 'Rank the world's educational systems' when they are supplying so much of the world's schools with curriculum - ironic?

Five Big Changes to the Future of Teacher Education

Five Big Changes to the Future of Teacher Education | Blended learning | Scoop.it
Getty In the book Teaching 2030 by Barnett Berry and 12 classroom experts, the authors pinpoint specific skills educators will need to teach in the schools of tomorrow. They say teachers must be prepared to find and adapt new technologies to engage the digital generation, as well as work across traditional subject areas using project learning. They must be able to use data and evidence to inform their practice and know how to work in both virtual learning environments and brick-and-mortar schools. And they’ll need to collaborate with community-based organizations and work in schools that provide all kinds of other services for students and their families.Along those lines, Berry has outlined five changes he believes need to be made to the future of teacher education.

Imagine a classroom where the students have the ability to spend their class time collaborating with other students, receiving additional support from the teacher, or working on hands on projects with their peers. A hands-on enriched classroom is possible with blended learning.

Blended learning offers many opportunities for both the teacher and the student that a traditional brick and mortar classroom may not. With the increasing demands of state standards and busy school days, blended learning permits students to learn a portion of the academic content at home and gives teachers the ability to engage students in a richer, deeper, and more meaningful context in the classroom.

Blended learning enables the teacher to become more of a participant in student learning and can help facilitate student mastery of content with enriching learning activities introduced and completed when the class meets face to face.
