Remembering "Green" - An Orangutan's journey - Winner of Best Short Documentary - A 2013 MUST AGENDA

Her name is Green, she is alone in a world that doesn't belong to her. She is a female orang-utan, victim of deforestation and resource exploitation.
This film is an emotional journey with Green's final days. It is a visual ride presenting the treasures of rainforest biodiversity and the devastating impacts of logging and land clearing for palm oil plantations.
The film "Green" is a 48 min long documentary on the Indonesian rainforest, deforestation and orangutan extinction. It is a silent film (without narration) which addresses itself both to the Indonesians and the consumers of wood/paper/palm oil around the world. This film is now available for free download on the website: http://greenfilm.free.fr

pdjmoo's insight:

One of those documentaries that I keep revisiting...moves me to the core...and reminds me that we have other species on the planet suffering, other than human. During 2013  we must allow ourselves to fully embrace our natural world as part of us not separate from us.  The quality of human life depends on the health and well being of nature and our environment and we are disappearing it at an alarming rate, often beyond return. We cannot keep destroying the very life that makes up the intricate and unfathomable biosphere we live in without dire and irreversible consequences. This film keeps me right on the leading edge of activism.

Alexia Abnett Trombas's curator insight, April 14, 4:12 AM

To make way for money, the forrests that are home to Orangutans, are dissappearing..tragedy and death for our wildlife.

VanAllen's curator insight, April 30, 10:26 AM

I never forget my initial watching of the extremely moving and informative documentary GREEN but I am also always extremely grateful to be reminded of it when somebody else posts it. I wish everybody in the world could watch it and be equally moved to try to take action before it is too late.

People Are Getting Sick Because of Environmental Destruction

People Are Getting Sick Because of Environmental Destruction | Biodiversity IS Life -- Conservation,Ecosystems,Wildlife,Rivers,Water,Forests | Scoop.it

By David Suzuki with contributions from David Suzuki Foundation Editorial and Communications Specialist Ian Hanington.

We’ve long known that environmental factors contribute to disease, especially contamination of air, water, and soil. Scientists are now learning the connection is stronger than we realized.

Preventing illness is the best way to get health care costs down. So why aren’t governments doing more to protect the environment?
