Research uncovers DNA looping damage tied to HPV cancer

Research uncovers DNA looping damage tied to HPV cancer | Biocision | Scoop.it

It’s long been known that certain strains of human papillomavirus (HPV) cause cancer. Now, researchers at The Ohio State University have determined a new way that HPV might spark cancer development – by disrupting the human DNA sequence with repeating loops when the virus is inserted into host-cell DNA as it replicates.

Surviving the Big Chill: Freezing and Thawing Mammalian Cells

Surviving the Big Chill: Freezing and Thawing Mammalian Cells | Biocision | Scoop.it

When you learn how to do cell culture, it can be tricky to freeze and thaw your cells correctly.  Frozen cells may be kept for decades, which means you need to get it right!!

The article here from Bitesize Bio gives a protocol and tells you the key things to get right.

You can get manuals online dedicated just to freezing and thawing cells if you are having trouble.  For some examples see:

And finally: there are risks to your own safety when freezing and thawing cells.  The Nunc Cryopreservation Manual - an older but very good resource - has a good safety section:
