Bike lane sticker bandits look to shame careless drivers

Bike lane sticker bandits look to shame careless drivers | Bike Parking | Scoop.it
If you're the type of driver who doesn't think twice about parking in the bike lane, your car might get bombed with an "I Parked in a Bike Lane" sticker, which a group of guerrilla cycling advocates hope will help to curb this unfortunate and quite frankly dangerous behaviour. The...
Brad Done's insight:
"Think twice before parking in the bike lane."
A group of guerrilla cycling advocates are now keeping an eye on those irresponsible drivers who shamelessly park their cars in bike lanes.
The advocates have prepared 1,000 stickers saying "I PARKED IN A BIKE LANE" and an instagram account so they can post pictures. This serves as their way to leverage the crowd in a sort of mass shaming ritual

Brad Done's insight:

Taking inspiration from "the iconic Kronan city bike", http://www.peoplepeople.se/ unveils their unique take on the city bike - the Spiran. This sleek bike comes with an impressive integrated lock and belt drive, and its classic design will surely be loved by a lot of bike enthusiasts.  Still a conceptual bike (waiting for final brake configuration and initial production), the bike is aimed at the 25-45 year old market, and more specifically to those who see value in design coupled with practicality.

Earlier today, the folks at PlanItMetro - the blog of Washington, D.C.'s transit authority - shared a snapshot of a bike rack in Buenos Aires.

Via Thomas Faltin
Brad Done's insight:

Using a bicycle can be very beneficial to the environment.  Yes, cycle riding can serve as a form of exercise, but further, bicycles do not emit pollutants like many cars do.  1 car can equal as many as 10 bicycles in a parking spot.

Kanazawa, its better by bike. ~ Tokyo By Bike | Bike Parking | Scoop.it
Brad Done's insight:

Bike sharing systems have been established in many Asian countries. Kanazawa in Japan has established the "Machi-nori system"; an effective bike sharing program accessible for everyone, even for tourists. "Machi-nori" is a term for public bike service. Anyone can take out or return the shared bikes at any of the 18 docking stations around the city of Kanazawa or at the Machi-nori head office. There are also maps around the city that show the location of docking stations and routes to numerous tourist attractions so it will be easy for residents and tourists to use the system for their own personal needs...

Via University of San Francisco
Brad Done's insight:

San Francisco embarks on a series of street-scape improvements - BRAVO!  Other cities could learn from such initiatives; providing designated areas for pedestrians and cyclists can only encourage more engaged shoppers, and can help encourage more people use cycling for transportation instead of bringing cars to the office.

"The SFMTA will remove parking and add a landscaped median and cycletrack to what is currently a rather drab (not to mention dangerous) street for pedestrians and cyclists. The project has funding and will move forward in phases over the next two to three years."

Swedes Develop Invisible Bike Helmet | Bike Parking | Scoop.it
You know what kind of sucks about riding a bike? Other than all that pedaling? Bike helmets. Sure, they keep that overrated "brain" from getting splattered, but they take a lot of the open-air-joy out of things, and they're not comfortable.

Exciting - an "invisible" bike helmet that engages on impact.  Could be revolutionary!

Oregon is a state that is doing bike parking right! | Bike Parking | Scoop.it
Recent upgrades to Oregon’s bike parking infrastructure have included increased installations of bike racks, bicycle stands and bike lockers.
Brad Done's insight:

Recent improvements to many Oregon cities’ cycling infrastructures have included the additions of: bike corrals, bike lockers, secured hangers, bike bollards and specialty artist designed devices. In special circumstances, cities have even employed temporary secured parking with industrial and hand- made devices.  By increasing cyclists’ options for secure bike parking, Oregon is an example of a state that is doing things right.
