The Next Big Thing in Big Data: People Analytics | Big Data with Machine Learning | Scoop.it

By combining data from both real and virtual worlds, we can now understand behavior at a previously unimaginable scale.

When we use data to uncover the workplace behaviors that make people effective, happy, creative, experts, leaders, followers, early adopters, and so on, we are using “people analytics.”

Early detection of Twitter trends explained

Early detection of Twitter trends explained | Big Data with Machine Learning | Scoop.it

A couple of weeks ago on Halloween night, I was out with some friends when my advisor sent me a message to check web.mit.edu, right now. It took me a few seconds of staring to realize that an article about my masters thesis work on a nonparametric approach to detecting trends on Twitter was on thehomepage of MIT. Bayesian Methods for Hackers

Bayesian Methods for Hackers | Big Data with Machine Learning | Scoop.it

Bayesian Methods for Hackers is designed as a introduction to Bayesian inference from a computational/understanding-first, and mathematics-second, point of view. Of course as an introductory book, we can only leave it at that: an introductory book. For the mathematically trained, they may cure the curiosity this text generates with other texts designed with mathematical analysis in mind. For the enthusiast with less mathematical-background, or one who is not interested in the mathematics but simply the practice of Bayesian methods, this text should be sufficient and entertaining.

Recomendation System in R

Recomendation System in R | Big Data with Machine Learning | Scoop.it

Recommender systems are used to predict the best products to offer to customers. These babies have become extremely popular in virtually every single industry, helping customers find products they'll like. Most people are familiar with the idea, but nearly everyone is exposed to several forms of personalized offers and recommendations each day (Google search ads being among the biggest source).

Building recommendation systems is part science, part art, and many have become extremely sophisticated. Such a system might seem daunting for those uninitiated, but it's actually fairly straight forward to get started if you're using the right tools.

This is a post about building recommender systems in R.
