While there may not be "new" information for those of us in library land, this is an excellent article to share with those administrators who think they can replace a certified librarian with a para or parent because of Google. Enjoy!

Julieanne Jackson's curator insight, November 18, 2:39 PM

Donate to charity.  Not only are you helping others in need, you get the tax deduction and de-clutter. http://www.collectibleswithcauses.org/ This non-profit charity accepts collectibles, all different vehicles, real estate, even aircraft. They pick up your donation free of charge.

'School libraries play a huge part in pupils' education'

'School libraries play a huge part in pupils' education' | Bibliotecas Escolares | Scoop.it
In a society where one in three homes has no books owned by the children in them, it is essential that youngsters can find them elsewhere. Recent research emphasises this importance. A study by the Institute of Education (2013) found reading for pleasure ‘to be more important for children's cognitive development between ages 10 and 16 than their parents' level of education.’

Reading might be typically associated with a sedentary lifestyle, but it’s not all bad. Canada’s National Reading Campaign released an infographic last week which details how reading can lower your stress level and help you become a better person. It can’t do much for one’s weight or cholesterol, but for that I would recommend an audiobook and a …

Check for discrimination of similar sounding words.  Provide intense, motivating, and frequent instruction.  Build vocabulary from an early age.  Practice listening accuracy,  auditory sequencing, and phonological memory.  Try Fast ForWord program to building skills for reading.

Denver Leigh Watson, M.Ed, LDTC's curator insight, October 28, 10:10 PM

I love info-graphics!  Harnessing knowledge and embracing the differences regarding how our brain functions in learning is the key to becoming a great teacher.  We can empower our teachers by providing them facts and insight on how to reach all of their students.
