AMS Mobile Pairing

Mobile pairing, a mechanism by which users can “pair” their various web browsing devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktops) with an institution’s network, allows users to access AMS electronic products when not connected to a host institution's network. The AMS permits authorized users (faculty, staff, students, and visiting faculty) to pair mobile devices with a host institution's subscriptions.

Three Organizations Collaborate and Release New Online Edition of U.S. Code of Federal Regulations | LJ INFOdocket

The project implemented features that have been often requested by government regulators, corporate counsel, and law librarians. “The LII’s edition of the CFR has the same search and navigation features that have made its edition of the United States Code the leading free, online source for Federal statutes for over a decade,” said Thomas R. Bruce, Director of the LII. “We’ve added linked cross-references both within the CFR and to relevant parts of the United States Code, something no other freely-available collection has. This will help users find other government regulations that impact them that they may not have found before.”

ISO - News - Digital object identifier (DOI) becomes an ISO standard

A new International Standard that provides a system for assigning a unique international identification code to objects for use on digital networks is expected to bring benefits for publishers, information managers, multi-media distributors, archive and cultural heritage communities, and the internet technology industry.

Published by ISO (International Organization for Standardization), ISO 26324:2012, Information and documentation -- Digital object identifier system, is an efficient means of identifying an entity over the Internet and used primarily for sharing with an interested user community or managing as intellectual property.

A DOI name is an identifier of an entity – physical, digital or abstract – on digital networks. It provides information about that object, including where the object, or information about it, can be found on the Internet.

Open Annotation Draft Data Model

The Open Annotation Core Data Model specifies an interoperable framework for creating associations between related resources, annotations, using a methodology which conforms to the Architecture of the World Wide Web. Open Annotations can easily be shared between platforms, with sufficient richness of expression to satisfy complex requirements while remaining simple enough to also allow for the most common use cases, such as attaching a piece of text to a single web resource.

An Annotation is considered to be a set of connected resources, including a body and target, and conveys that the body is somehow about the target. The full model supports additional functionality, enabling semantic tagging, embedding content, selecting segments of resources, choosing the appropriate representation of a resource and providing styling hints for consuming clients.

Towards a Data Curation Platform for Engineering and Physical Sciences | data.bris

A new Research Data Management project, “Towards a Data Curation Platform for Engineering and Physical Sciences” has been funded under the University of Bristol’s EPSRC Institutional Sponsorship 2012 to complement the current work on data.bris.

The aim of the new project is to extend data.bris to support live research data, i.e. offering tools and guidance for research data management on the University of Bristol’s Blue Peta Research Data Storage Facility during a research project, rather than just a deposit process at the end of the project, as is currently the case. This would entail folding the Exabyte Research Hub software, developed in the Department of Computer Science over the last few years, into the data.bris system.

dPlan™: The Online Disaster-Planning Tool

dPlan is a free online tool that simplifies the process of writing a disaster plan for your collections. It provides a comprehensive fill-in-the-blank template into which you enter information about your institution. dPlan generates a printed disaster plan specific to your institution.

dPlan was developed to assist non-profit organizations that hold cultural collections, such as libraries, archives, historical societies, museums, town clerk offices, and others. We are sorry, but for-profit corporations cannot use dPlan at this time.

dPlan was prepared by Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC). The development of the template was funded by the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Encore un nom à rallonge à l’énoncé obscur, me direz-vous. Certes. Mais, derrière cette phrase alambiquée, se cache une avancée pour tous ceux qui souhaitent mettre en Ĺ“uvre des outils d’archivage numérique sûrs et performants.

The new digital tools for scientific research

Whether you’re a student, researcher or engineer, you’ve probably mastered to perfection certain IT tools: PowerPoint, word processing software, electronic messaging. Other, less well known tools exist, each with a specific use. In research, as in many fields, it is important to organize one’s time and to use relevant, well-adapted tools. Do you need to organize your bibliographic search, exchange large files, or optimize your work as a team? The newcomers to help you with this are called ResearcherID, Figshare, Prezi and Sozi… Do you know them? Read on for a look at the digital tools to use for your scientific research.

This article is part of our growing dossier on Scientific Social Networks, translated from the French by Abby Tabor.
