Far too much time is put on summative evaluation when what ,matters to learning far more is the formative ones. Summative is great for task and job analysis  used to set initial standards and objectives but does little during the actual learning process to assist the learner or teacher.

Do You Know The 4 Stages Of Learning? | Edudemic

Do You Know The 4 Stages Of Learning? | Edudemic | BHS - Articles of Interest | Scoop.it

The idea that different students may learn differently (otherwise known as ‘learning styles) is a pretty hot-button issue. In fact, I don’t think any other topic has garnered us such a large amount of hate-mail, even though we’ve tried to approach the topic from both sides of the argument.

That said, regardless of how you feel about whether different learning styles exist or not, there are many things that teachers have tried out over the years to see what works best for them and for their students.

5 Principles for a Problem-Solving Classroom

5 Principles for a Problem-Solving Classroom | BHS - Articles of Interest | Scoop.it

Districts across the United States are implementing the Common Core State Standards, and they are realigning curriculum for English Language Arts and Mathematics. Unfortunately, some of them are simply purchasing a shiny, new “Common Core Edition” of their existing textbook, most of which aren’t any more aligned to these standards than their pre-CCSS versions.

Whatever you may think of the Common Core and its implementation, there is some powerful and valuable stuff embedded within the standards. In particular, the Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMP) contain important guidance about how students should think and work in a math classroom.

6 Teaching Strategies Shifts To Promote Deeper Learning
TD's insight:

Technology is a powerful tool for learning that can be used effectively to help students develop the skills necessary to succeed in school and beyond. Students can develop transferable knowledge and skills as they engage in learning experiences that require them to construct knowledge. In order to facilitate these types of deep learning experiences, an adjustment in traditional instructional practices is necessary. These ideas are supported by the Common Core State Standards. - See more at: http://ns1.teachthought.com/teaching/6-teaching-strategies-to-promote-deeper-learning/#sthash.ulUEIN72.dpuf
