AFT Paper Calls for New Teacher Bar Exam | Education News

AFT Paper Calls for New Teacher Bar Exam | Education News | Beyond the Stacks | Scoop.it
For many years, prior to being allowed to enter the courtroom, aspiring lawyers in America have been required to take a comprehensive multi-day test to assess their knowledge of law and procedure.

This article (and I haven't found any others either) fails to address the question of how such a test would differ from the tests we already take.  Apparently we (and by we, I mean our unions) need to do a better job of publicizing the requirements we already meet when we obtain certificates.

In Defense Of Libraries

In Defense Of Libraries | Beyond the Stacks | Scoop.it
The paint on my worn out ol' library soapbox is getting rather chipped these days, but I'm about to get back up on it, my friends. Brace yourselves.
Heather Perkinson's insight:

Honestly, I'm only posting this one in case you're worried I've been under a rock for the past two weeks.  I haven't, I've just been ignoring the latest flurry of attack-defense-attack-defense hysteria about whether or not libraries are extinct/irrelevant/pointless/etc. This latest salvo was both amusing and a good summary retrospective, so I finally succumbed and clicked. Plus, I'm a huge fan of the author, Rita Meade, who has one of the best Twitter ids ever: @ScrewyDecimal.

It feels like it's been a long while since I've posted anything for the music teachers out there--and my favorite blog, Open Culture, posted this yesterday, so here's one for you. History and English teachers might find something to like here, too, especially if you're interested in resources for teaching about the Harlem Renaissance.

Google News searches turn up incomplete results, researcher finds

Some past articles cannot be found using the news archive as the search engine says it’s updating the feature.
Heather Perkinson's insight:

This sounds less like a conspiracy than a need to use Google News (not to be confused with the basic Google search--this is a different feature, like Google Scholar or Google Books) with care and understanding of its limitations.
