Friends don't let friends use job boards | New App

Friends don't let friends use job boards | New App | Job Seekers Advice with Street Smarts | Scoop.it

"Job boards have become very ineffective, and it’s exceedingly difficult for job seekers to get noticed by blindly submitting resumes online."

"Studies show that candidates referred by friends are up to 54 times more likely to be hired than those applying via a job board."

"These candidates, who come with a trusted built-in recommendation, have a much better chance of actually landing the job."

streetsmartprof's insight:

My only recommendation is to consider a decent job search site to determine your key words first. My preference is www.indeed.com due to the capabilities of their search engine for job listings.

Learning the right key words is critical to locate the best jobs to match your skills, competence and character . This is part of the reason hiring managers rank referals near the top.

Very few people will ever refer a job seeker who does not match all 3 areas with the posting being considered.

Job Search Mobile Apps to Simplify Your Life

Job Search Mobile Apps to Simplify Your Life | Job Seekers Advice with Street Smarts | Scoop.it

Would it help to have an app to watch current job postings around the key words you have identified which will help you find your dream job?  If so, here are 4 apps identified by Mashable.

1. Job Compass - Local job search

2. Job Search by Indeed - Largest job board, advance job search for key words/geo/companies highly recommended to use this app.

3. JobMo - International job board if you are looking to move overseas

4. Gigwalk - Contract work to get your foot in the door

Go to itunes for appls 1 to 4 and Google Play for 2 and 3.

It is recommended to determine your unique key words using the advance search function of each of the job boards, especially Indeed. If you are pulling in 100's of job postings every week, the odds you will really look at all of them is rather low.

If you are looking for jobs in the hidden job market, knowing who is posting/hiring in the current economy helps you pin point the companies to consider in the geographical locations you have decided upon.

If you have already created a short list of companies, places to live and the key words of your ideal job, try the advance search functions of Indeed.com. Plus set up automatic email alerts of new postings. (Whether via your phone or straight on the website, both options work well.)
