OECD Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS)

OECD Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
Teaching in Focus Briefs The Teaching in Focus briefs shed new light on issues surrounding the teaching and learning environment in schools and teachers’ working conditions. They present data from the Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS), which is the first and only international survey on the conditions of teaching and learning. TALIS fills important information gaps in the international comparisons of education systems. It offers an opportunity for teachers and school principals to give their input into education analysis and policy development in some key policy areas. Cross-country analysis from TALIS allows countries to identify other countries facing similar challenges and to learn from other policy approaches. These briefs will provide policy makers, school leaders and teachers alike with a unique perspective on the experiences of teachers in schools around the world. No. 1 -Are teachers getting the recognition they deserve? No. 2 -What can be done to support new teachers? No. 3 -How can teacher feedback be used to improve the classroom disciplinary climate?

Moving at the Speed of Creativity | My year with an iPad

Moving at the Speed of Creativity | My year with an iPad | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
"When I started my new faculty position at TCU last fall, I was given a MacBook Pro and iPad for my professional use. One of the requirements for getting the iPad was that I (along with other faculty in my college) would participate in an iPad Learning Community. Coincidentally, I co-led this group with a colleague, and we met about once every month to discuss creative ways to use this device within the context of higher education. After a couple of meetings, I realized the questions and comments from our group could be arranged in three categories: iPad as a personal productivity device (i.e., replacement for a laptop), iPad for student projects both in and out of class, and iPad for presenting content to the class. My job for the rest of the year, then, was to organize our learning community meetings around the interests and tech skills of the rest of the group. Personally, I found the third category to be most intriguing, which is what I would like to spend some time talking about."

Creating Music with iPads - iPad and Technology in Music Education

Creating Music with iPads - iPad and Technology in Music Education | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
"One area that I don’t have time to explore very often during the school year is creating music on my iPad. It seems with all the day to day activities of teaching that I totally loose touch with musical explorations and composing. I’ve been taking more time lately to do this and I am floored at what I can do with an iPad and a few apps. I am not going to give you a history lesson here but I will say that at one time in my career I dreamed of creating a wonderful MIDI lab outfitted with computers, keyboards, speakers and mixers for my students to use. That dream never happened because of the crazy cost involved. My dream has been reshaped. Here is what I’ve found…."

"TouchCast is an exciting new tool that combines video and the web in amazingly new interactive ways that I have never before seen. I believe TouchCast could be an exciting new for educators and students. The ability to move and interact with the content on the screen during the video reminds me of the user interface used in the movie Minority Report. Very creative ability to both create and interact with various content. You can just tell when an app fully uses the capabilities of the iPad and TouchCast is one of those amazing apps that gets it right."

Mr P's ICT blog - iPads in the Classroom: Making new knowledge stick!

Mr P's ICT blog - iPads in the Classroom: Making new knowledge stick! | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
"When it comes to learning new knowledge and facts relating to a topic, it can sometimes be tricky to find tasks that help children share their learning so that they retain the information. I have seen many lessons and work in books that just seem to involve research and simply copying it into books. I always question how much knowledge the children can recite from this approach. The iPad is now transforming the way children demonstrate their learning and recently a class of Year 2 children have been using different approaches relating to the same topic of animals in the Savannah to show how these activities are making the new found knowledge stick."
