Essential Anatomy 2 adds more systems, iPhone support, just in time for back to school

Essential Anatomy 2 adds more systems, iPhone support, just in time for back to school | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
"Just in time for the upcoming school season (and Apple's education promo) 3D4Medical has released Essential Anatomy 2 for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The most noticeable improvement, of course, is the iPhone support (EA1 was iPad-only). The first Essential Anatomy app (you can read my review of it here http://www.tuaw.com/2013/02/13/essential-anatomy-is-the-future-of-touch-based-anatomy-learning/ ) has become a staple of anatomy learning in the classroom. With the latest update to the app, it has become even more comprehensive. Now in addition to exploring the bones, muscles, connective tissue, nerves, arteries and veins in the body, the app has added the digestive and urinary systems."

Six Steps to Developing Your Own 21st Century Educational Technology -

Six Steps to Developing Your Own 21st Century Educational Technology - | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
"Over the course of the past few months, many educators, including myself, have been scrambling to meet the needs of the “21st century classroom” or the “technology-enriched classroom.” As a field, we have discovered that our youth are adapting to a technologically advanced society, and as they progress, our educational system is falling further behind, quite literally, by the hour. As a solution, our principals and administrators have decided that we have a goal to reach, but ultimately, we’re the leaders of our classrooms, and we’re the ones who have to figure out how to turn our classrooms into technology-enriched environments, or move over for someone else who can."

Fetchnotes - A Free & Simple Notes App for Your iPad - iPad Apps for School | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
"Fetchnotes is a service for creating and organizing notes for yourself. Organizing your notes on Fetchnotes is quite simple. When you write a note, just use a hashtag to label your note. Then whenever you want to search for a note just enter a hashtag. For example, if I was a student taking notes in a history course I might use the hashtag “#revolution” for all notes related to revolutions. Then I could go back and read all of my notes about revolution by just searching for that hashtag."

How to Quickly Fix Stuck Orientation on the iPad, iPhone, iPod touch | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
"Every once in a while an iOS device or app will get stuck in the wrong orientation, unresponsive to rotating the device and it either stays in portrait or horizontal mode, despite every effort to rotate the device any which direction. Though this seems to happen more often on the iPad than the iPhone or iPod touch, it can still occur on every iOS device and with just about any app."

Many poorly-secured company servers are exposed online, offering attackers ready made backdoors to wipe or steal data Moore’s scan found 308,000 BMCs that used the problem protocol identified by Farmer. A total of 53,000 of them were configured in a way that allows access without a password; 195,000 stored passwords and other credentials unencrypted; 99,000 exposed encoded passwords that could be cracked by an attacker (Moore says that he unscrambled 10 percent in a preliminary test); 35,000 had vulnerabilities in the Universal Plug and Play protocol that Moore’s previous Internet scan highlighted.

Assign an Apple ID to a Mac User Account in OS X for Added Peace of Mind

Assign an Apple ID to a Mac User Account in OS X for Added Peace of Mind | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
Many Mac users overlook a feature in OS X that allows them to attach an Apple ID to their actual user account, not just to iCloud and the App Store. It only takes a moment to set, and it provides for an incredibly simple password recovery option at the login and boot menus, allowing you to regain access to your user account and files just by entering the associated Apple ID.Going further, Macs with multiple user accounts can assign different Apple ID’s to each unique user account, or you can just choose to tie a single Apple ID to the Mac. If you do choose to attach a lone Apple ID to the Mac this way, be sure to associate it with an administrator (admin) account in OS X, that way you will be able to regain full system access in the event it’s needed because the primary password has been lost.

Learning, Reimagined: Inside the New Classrooms Model of Personalized Instruction

Learning, Reimagined: Inside the New Classrooms Model of Personalized Instruction | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
A former fifth-grade teacher and co-founder of the Teach to One instructional model explains how it enhances the teaching and learning experience. This model reconfigures the learning puzzle — time, instructional approaches and tools — to help students learn material thoroughly and in ways that are both meaningful and challenging. Most important, it ensures that all students are working at their proper learning level, rather than sitting through lessons they already know or struggling through material before they're ready for it.

Why It’s Time to Stop Talking And Start Acting to Make Change

Why It’s Time to Stop Talking And Start Acting to Make Change | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
Schools aren't good at innovation, said Grant Lichtman in a TEDx talk given to teachers in Denver. They are big, bureaucratic, risk averse and affected by politics more than smart education policy. Change is necessary and schools need to embrace the idea of “teaching into the unknown,” since the rapid pace of change makes it impossible to foresee exactly what the future will look like for current students. Instead, schools need to teach students to be self-evolving, so they can adapt to change as it comes. That means that schools need to become self-evolving institutions themselves, embracing change and preparing kids for their future, not looking back at the past. His challenge to all educators: stop talking about it; start doing it.
