Use iPads In The Classroom? This Acceptable Policy Poster Is For You. | Edudemic | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
"Chances are, if you’re teaching a group of younger students (elementary or middle school, though high schoolers are certainly not known for being super careful with their devices either), you’re likely concerned about how they’re handling your expensive classroom iPads. There are a ton of “tough” tablet cases out there designed to save your device when it is dropped/banged/slammed/smacked/otherwise injured, but just trying to protect them for when that happens isn’t getting at the root of the problem. Teaching students how to properly handle their devices so that they don’t get broken (or are less likely to, since obviously accidents happen) is a necessary approach (though I’d still recommend padding those iPads to high heaven in whatever case is most appropriate for your classroom needs)."

Paying attention, however, doesn't mean you're automatically aware of how to personally help make a brighter future. To do that, you might need an assist.

Bowling with Bumper Rails: iPad Restrictions in Schools - HookED on INNOVATION

Bowling with Bumper Rails: iPad Restrictions in Schools - HookED on INNOVATION | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
Rolling out iPads in our schools in some ways as mirrored my bowling experience as a youth. We’ve given some basic direction and support but sometimes the ball flew backward (like when we went from iOS 4.3 to 5.0). Sometimes our fingers get stuck in the ball (iPads only being used for simple substitutive tasks). And other times, even when we had students going in the right direction, their feet would sometimes step over the line before they roll(distraction). However, by constantly communicating with our community, teachers, students and administrators, we are continually seeking out ways to positively impact the instructional use of these tools in the classroom and thus have the kids bowl more strikes. One of the early struggles in our deployment was the ability to be balance profiles and restrictions on the iPads so that they would have a successful educational experience. We really only had a couple of choices when we started back in 2011:

5 Tips For Keeping Students On Task While Using Technology

5 Tips For Keeping Students On Task While Using Technology | Better teaching, more learning | Scoop.it
One of the things I hear most often from teachers who are reluctant to put technology into the hands of their students is that they have visions of students goofing off constantly behind their screen instead of focusing on their work. Playing games, chatting with their friends, and browsing the internet are all likely suspects drawing your students’ attention away from whatever the task at hand happens to be, but just because students have access to technology doesn’t mean you have to transform into device police and forget about teaching. Even if your students would much rather be watching videos on YouTube than learning about the Roman Empire, you still have the upper hand: they want to be using the device. Period. So how can you leverage that into students who are actually working on what they should be? Here are a few tips. Tell us what you do in your classroom to keep your students from goofing off while they have devices in hand! Share with the Edudemic community by by leaving a comment below, mentioning @Edudemic on Twitter or leaving your thoughts on our Facebook page.
