Top IIMs Will Offer 2,016 Seats in 2012 | News

Top IIMs Will Offer 2,016 Seats in 2012 | News | Best MBA Schools in India | Scoop.it

All eyes are on the number of seats available in different categories at the top ten b-schools as the Common Admission Test (CAT) fever subsides to give way to anxious anticipation. The following data excludes the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore as it has not yet finalized the total number of seats available for the batch starting in 2012.
INDIAN INSTITUTES OF MANAGEMENT (IIMs):
The top five IIMs have increased the total number of seats between them from 1,979 to 2,016 for the academic year 2012-2014. The 37 extra seats mean and increase of 1.8%.
Reserved Seats: 998 of the 2,016 seats are reserved. The percentage of reserved seats (49.5%) remains the same as last year – for NC/OBCs it is 27% (544 seats), for SC it is 15% (302 seats), and for ST it is 7.5% (151 seats).
General Category: That leaves 1,018 seats open for general category candidates.
FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES (FMS):
From the next academic year, FMS will accept CAT scores to fill the 200 seats it offers.
Reserved Seats: Of the 99 reserved seats, 54 seats are for NC/OBC category, 30 seats for the SC category, and 15 are reserved for the ST category.
General Category: That leaves 101 seats for general category students.
SP JAIN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH (SPJIMR):
SP Jain will continue to accept CAT, XAT, and GMAT scores with 180 seats on offer in the next academic year. It has no reserved seats.
General Category seats for CAT takers: To determine the number of seats available for CAT takers for admission to the top nine b-schools, the numbers at IIMs (1,018), FMS (101), and SPJIMR (117) need to be added up. According to past records about 65% of candidates have got admission in SPJIMR every year through CAT scores. That adds up to a total of 1,236 seats.
Reserved Category seats for CAT takers: There are 1,097 seats in the reserved category for admission to the top nine b-schools.
Seats for XAT takers: Only two of the top ten b-schools accept the Xavier’s Aptitude Test (XAT). Xavier’s Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) has 240 seats on offer for the next academic session and SPJIMR’s takes approximately 30% of its intake through XAT, which is 54 seats. So a total of approximately 294 seats are available through XAT.
Seats for GMAT takers: Again only two of the top ten b-schools accept GMAT scores. The Indian School of Business (ISB) is offering 770 seats in its next academic year. SPJIMR takes about 5% of its intake through GMAT, which is around 9 seats. So a total of approximately 779 seats are given based on GMAT scores.

CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) | Blogs | Best MBA Schools in India | Scoop.it

CLAT, the entrance exam conducted for admission to law schools, demands that the candidate have knowledge of current affairs and an analytical bend of mind—skills that are critical for a career in Law. CLAT is one of the many law entrance examinations that open the door to Law schools for students who want to make a career out of litigation. Other law admission tests include the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and the Delhi University law test, to name just two. State boards and regional law schools also conduct their own entrance tests. While the CLAT and LSAT can be taken by students after class 12 and their scores are accepted by law schools offering five-year undergraduate law programmes, the Delhi University exam is for graduates in any discipline seeking admission to their three-year undergraduate law programme.
Started in 2008, the CLAT exam is an all-India entrance examination conducted by 11 national Law universities for admissions to their undergraduate (LL.B) and postgraduate (LL.M.) degree programmes. There are only 1,100 seats available in these universities, out of which only 500 seats are for the general category candidates. These law universities include, the National Law School of India University (NLS), NALSAR University of Law, and the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences.

Tips To Improve Your Classroom Management Skills | Blogs

Tips To Improve Your Classroom Management Skills | Blogs | Best MBA Schools in India | Scoop.it

Implementing an effective classroom management plan can be a difficult task. The behavior of the current generation of students and the teachers’ inability to handle disciplinary situations simply add to the woes of both the teacher and the taught alike. The situation is getting worse due to a variety of factors; thus, it is no surprise that people everywhere are looking for classroom management plans.

So what makes a classroom management plan effective in improving student behavior? An effective classroom management plan has many elements, three of which are critical and yet so simple as to allow to you begin working on them right away. Here is what you got to do:

1. STAY CALM AND COMPOSED

Always stay calm and composed, right from the moment you step into the classroom to the time you wind up the class. At any time if the pupils you teach sense that you are flustered or starting to panic then it is quite likely that their inappropriate classroom behavior will only worsen. No matter how stressed out and frustrated you may be, you must present an image of calm to your pupils at all times.

It is easy to become downbeat and negative under pressure to perform. Handle pressure creatively without buckling under it. The least you can do is not let a bad situation become worse by losing your cool. If you are negative, then your students will be negative and that will make classroom management more difficult. What tends to happen in these situations is that you get yourself into a vicious circle, the more negative that you become, the more badly behaved your students become.

If you can walk into your classroom with a smile on your face you will get a much more positive reaction from your students.

2. DON’T MISS A CHANCE TO APPRECIATE YOUR STUDENTS

If you want your students to behave inside the classroom, then praise them whenever you have the opportunity. You need to train your students exactly how you want them to behave, and the use of praise is an excellent way to do this.

Appreciation is the most important tool at the disposal of a teacher, and if you can exercise it wisely, even the worst-behaved ones can be controlled easily.

3. USE THE LANGUAGE OF CHOICE

Communicate with your students using words that not only are clear but also convey in a manner that respects the students’ sense of self-esteem. Instead of telling, or worse commanding, children to do something, explain to them that you would like them to ‘choose’ to do something. This subtle change in language is incredibly powerful and is sure to produce positive results.

An example of this would be explaining to John “I would like you to choose to sit down quietly”, as opposed to saying “sit down quietly”.

These three steps––although quite subtle––will transform your approach to students, making you an effective classroom manager in your school. In the long run, they will also help you become a much better teacher.

Career in Media,Films,Mass Communication | Course Details of Media,Films,Mass Communication | Carrere Prospects for Media,Films,Mass Communication | buzzEDU | Best MBA Schools in India | Scoop.it

communication is yet another media related course that covers a wide array of fields such as journalism, filmmaking, public relations, advertisement, photography, and many more.
Mass media refers to all media technologies, including the Internet, television, newspaper, and radio, all of which are used for mass communications in order to entertain as well as disseminate information and generate public opinion regarding various issues concerning society. In a predominantly democratic country such as India, the press plays a significant role and journalists are esteemed as frontrunners in shaping public opinion. A career in media promises to be very rewarding but at the same requires one to be unfazed and enterprising. Besides gatekeeping and agenda-setting, the media ensure free flow of news, information, and entertainment. The privatization of media and the advent of new media (online media) have completely transformed the industry. A career in media involves broadcasting (documentaries, television, radio, online media [including blogs, forums, etc.]) and print (newspapers, magazines, books, journals, etc.). The skills required to enter this field are creativity, articulate communication, and the ability to build in-depth knowledge of social, economic, and political issues.
Speaking of the popular fields of filmmaking and television, opportunities are wide open for talented professionals in the areas of acting, production, direction, editing, cinematography, choreography, and photography, to name just a few.
