Another great way to learn during summer:  get a few teachers together and chose a book to read.  Create a blog to share insights.  This could help reinforce technology skills and allow more to participate as they sit at the pool or take care of children.  This might be something that could continue into the school year.

How flipped #learning works in (and out of) the classroom

How flipped #learning works in (and out of) the classroom | Best Practices in Instructional Design & Use of Learning Technologies | Scoop.it

Flipped learning is more than just having students do homework during the school day. It’s more than just putting the onus on students to teach themselves. In fact, it’s neither of those things. Don’t be fooled by simple explanations of flipped classrooms that simplify a highly complex undertaking.

5 Ways To Use Word Clouds In The Classroom | Edudemic

5 Ways To Use Word Clouds In The Classroom | Edudemic | Best Practices in Instructional Design & Use of Learning Technologies | Scoop.it
The popularity of word clouds remains pretty constant in education, and it’s not difficult to see why. They’re a great way for students to distil and summarize information. They help students get to the crux of an issue, sorting through important ideas and concepts quickly in order to see what’s important. And “see” is the operative word here, because word clouds are certainly nice to look at. They speak fantastically to humans’ affinity for the visual, and are particularly useful for visual learners.

However, it’s important to remember that the process of creating word clouds is just as important as the resulting resources. They’re fun to make and so do a great job engaging reluctant learners. Word clouds have tons of potential to be used in all types of ways.

Free Technology for Teachers: Five Ways Students Can Share Videos Without YouTube | #learning

Free Technology for Teachers: Five Ways Students Can Share Videos Without YouTube | #learning | Best Practices in Instructional Design & Use of Learning Technologies | Scoop.it
It is not a secret that I enjoy helping teachers learn how to use video creation tools with their students. Creating videos is a process that students enjoy because the final product is something that they can share with a potentially large audience. Teachers like video projects because students get engaged in developing and sharing their best work. At the end of the project there is always a question of how to share the work. If your school doesn't block it, YouTube is a good way to share (depending on your situation you might make the videos unlisted instead of public).

Two New Resources On Coding for Teachers | #learning

Two New Resources On Coding for Teachers | #learning | Best Practices in Instructional Design & Use of Learning Technologies | Scoop.it

Coding is becoming one of the essential literacies in the 21st century education. There is a growing demand now for teaching students how to code. In his wonderful TED talk titled "Let's teach kids to code", Scientist Mitch Resnick made this beautiful analogy: "When kids learn to code , it enables them to learn many other things, opens up many new opportunities for learning. It's useful to make an analogy to reading and writing, when you learn to read and write it opens up opportunities for you to learn so many other things, when you learn to read you can then read to learn, which is the same thing with coding, if you learn to code you can code to learn."
