10 Things That Learners Pay Attention To (And How to Use Them in #eLearning)

10 Things That Learners Pay Attention To (And How to Use Them in #eLearning) | Best Practices in Instructional Design & Use of Learning Technologies | Scoop.it

"Even more than other types of education, eLearning must struggle to attract learners' attention: the Internet is full of distractions, and adult learners are both busier and more free to indulge in distractions. Helping students to pay attention is a primary concern of training professionals, so here are some optimal methods to win the attention game in eLearning."

Guillaume Decugis's insight:

"Content curation is about sharing knowledge. By carefully selecting the right content and placing it in the right context, content curators transform information into knowledge.

@Marc Rougier's post comes back on the results of our extensive survey on the status of knowledge sharing in the enterprise which measured how knowledge became a strategic asset for the enterprise - yet one that is largely underserved in terms of tools or platforms to manage its dissemination properly.

"While there is consensus on the importance of sharing knowledge within organizations, current systems have not adapted to third-party content."

Here's how you can prepare your company to Knowledge 2.0."

Do you think games have a place in your classroom? This newly released data is from a survey of 694 K-8 teachers in the U.S. that the Joan Ganz Cooney Center conducted in 2013 to see how teachers are using digital games in their classrooms.
What are some of the findings?

* 74% of teachers are using games in their classroom

* 55% of students play games at least once a week

* 72% of students access games on a PC or a Mac, and 41% of teachers use a white board to share games

* The two greatest barriers are the time it takes to implement games (45%) and the cost of the games (44%)

This post from Games and Learning provides the current data in both a visual and written form. There is much more to be found on the website. You may also want to check out the Joan Ganz Cooney Center. They have also published an article on this which may be found at http://www.joanganzcooneycenter.org/2014/06/09/digital-games-in-the-classroom-a-national-surevy/

Good article with some good game suggestions.

Joe Pereira's curator insight, June 2, 8:44 AM

A nice little article with a few good game suggestions to use in the classroom, although it is extremely disappointing not see any paser-based IF mentioned when they've included 'Gone Home' and 'Myst', described as a 'first-person puzzle game'. Both these games are a direct graphical evolution of the standard text adventure. One thing I don't like in the article though, is the author's decision to discuss both the topics of Digital Game-based learning and Gamification. I don't think Gamification should be discussed at all with educators, when real video games can be used for learning, instead of game-like concepts.
