A Stunning Day in September: The Perspective of a Climate Activist - NationofChange

A Stunning Day in September: The Perspective of a Climate Activist - NationofChange | Best Blog | Scoop.it
Being at the People’s Climate March was awe inspiring. Waves of indigenous people, labor activists, faith organizations, college students, and environmental groups streamed through the streets of Manhattan flooding it, this time, with hope and optimism. The diverse groups embodied a collective conscience that showed how unchecked climate impacts would dwarf their other successes. They flew seagulls, hoisted colorful banners, rode an ark, posed with insightful signs, and played instruments in an unmatched visual spectacle. Over 300,000-plus people fed off the energy of enthusiastic marchers worldwide on screens dotted along the route. The lively event went mute at 12:58 p.m. when we observed a moment of silence for victims of the climate crisis. Then the rainbow of individuals sounded the alarm.

Michael is homeless in Toronto, Canada. He has walking pneumonia. Michael has been in and out of the hospital. The night we met, it was cold and damp. I can tell you first hand, living on the streets in with a cold is horrible. You can never find the rest needed to get better! Michael ended up homeless because of a relationship gone bad. He lost his place to stay and ending up on the streets with his two dogs. For people experiencing homelessness with pets, it's nearly impossible to access support services. Before you judge, would you give up your pets? If you live in Canada, please click on this link [http://www.20khomes.ca/campaign/write...] to write your Member of Parliament today and tell them that you think ending homelessness should be a top priority in the new National Housing Strategy.

It's Time to Take Content Marketing Automation Seriously

It's Time to Take Content Marketing Automation Seriously | Best Blog | Scoop.it

Companies that use marketing automation have 53% higher conversion rates than companies that do not, according to the Aberdeen Group.

Though some marketers insist content marketing automation takes away the relationship between the brand and customer, automation can actually enhance that relationship.

Content marketing automation can be as simple as scheduled social media posts and as complicated as list segmentation and lead scoring. Depending on a brand's marketing and sales strategy, content marketing automation can dramatically improve conversion rates.

However, marketers really need to take automation seriously if they want to prove the success of a campaign....

Is GENF20 PLUS the Anti-Aging HGH Treatment People Have Been Looking For

Is GENF20 PLUS the Anti-Aging HGH Treatment People Have Been Looking For | Best Blog | Scoop.it

GENF20 PLUS is a beneficial and much sought-after human growth hormone (HGH) releaser that people regularly see in online anti-aging catalogs and whatnot. There’s a reason for that, and it’s mostly because it’s a genuinely effective anti-aging supplementation treatment known all over the worldwide web. According to HGHhelp unfortunately, many so-called purveyors of anti-aging medication tend to add GENF20 PLUS in their list of products without making sure that they have genuine GENF20 PLUS pills in stock. Some even intentionally lie and claim they’re selling GENF20 PLUS when it’s actually an imitation drug. As such, in order for clients to fully enjoy every last HGH-related benefit that GENF20 PLUS provides, it’s best that they only buy genuine pills from a GenF20plus website.

In regards to HGH supplementation and therapy’s connection to anti-aging as well as bodybuilding and dieting, it’s actually something supported by scientific fact. As per HGHhelp , the medical community has long been vouching for the positive effects of restoring HGH levels back to optimum levels (like the HGH levels of a person in his twenties) in terms of becoming healthier, stronger, and livelier. The natural human growth hormone produced by the pituitary gland, after all, is the hormone that facilitates the growth of little boys and girls. It’s also responsible for making sure children can grow up into healthy adults, so it’s expected to be able to assist in facilitating metabolism rates, muscle mass creation, and overall vitality.

There have even been scientific studies conducted that link the symptoms of aging directly to decreasing HGH levels. To be more specific, once a person ages and the production of growth hormone by his pituitary gland slows down, that’s when he starts seeing aging signs like getting wrinkles and losing stamina during sex. What this means is that by replacing one’s lost HGH with HGH supplementation, he’ll be able to keep aging signs from progressing for a longer period of time. Keep in mind that some people age faster than others. Others look older than they really are because they weren’t able to age well.

There are also those people who look younger than they are, such that any one of them could serve as the poster child for the fictitious Fountain of Youth. For those who are starting to approach middle age, GENF20 PLUS provides the pills they need to hold on to their youthfulness for as long as possible. Even the elderly could enjoy the benefits of this HGH releaser as well once they’ve tried it out. No, the GENF20 PLUS won’t suddenly turn someone who’s fifty years old into a twenty year old, but it does show marked improvements in metabolism, sexual drive, vitality, energy, physical stamina, muscle mass, and skin suppleness thanks to the restoration of their natural HGH levels.

For many people out there, to see is to believe, so the features and benefits of the GENF20 PLUS HGH supplement is something that’s best experienced by those who take it. For those who want to keep their liver spots, laugh lines, crow’s feet , and other wrinkles from deepening or developing, then taking GENF20 PLUS HGH supplements may be their best bet. Returning HGH levels to optimum levels could even affect a person’s ability to handle disease, because their immune system functions can actually improve through this treatment. Even though there’s no such thing as the Fountain of Youth, that shouldn’t stop adults from keeping themselves healthy. Aging shouldn’t make them give up and let themselves go. For more on HGH supplements like Genf20 Plus go to HGHhelp

People interested in purchasing genuine GENF20 PLUS pills should always order from the source to avoid getting gypped by scammers and con men out there that sell inferior HGH products under false pretenses. This HGH releaser is quite effective in improving one’s health and vitality, particularly a person’s skin health, metabolism rate, immune system, muscle-building capabilities, sex drive, and physical stamina. For people who want to know more about the HGH supplement Genf20 Plus and its benefits in the realms of bodybuilding, weight control, and anti-aging, then visit HGHhelp

Decal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A decal (/ˈdkæl/, /dɨˈkæl/, or /ˈdɛkəl/) or transfer is a plastic, cloth, paper or ceramic substrate that has printed on it a pattern or image that can be moved to another surface upon contact, usually with the aid of heat or water. The word is short for decalcomania, which is the English version of the French word décalcomanie. The technique was invented by Simon François Ravenet, an engraver from France who later moved to England and perfected the process he called "decalquer" (which means to copy by tracing); it became widespread during the decal craze of the late 19th century.

Decal is composed of the following layers from top to bottom:

Different variations of decals include: water-slide or water-dip; and vinyl peel-and-stick. A water-slide (or water-dip) decal is screen-printed on a layer of water-soluble adhesive on a water-resistant paper, that must first be dipped in water prior to its application. Upon contact with water, the glue is loosened and the decal can be removed from its backing; overly long exposure, however, dissolves the glue completely causing the decal to fail to adhere. A peel-and-stick decal is actually not a decal as described above, but a vinyl sticker with adhesive backing, that can be transferred by peeling off its base. The sign industry calls these peel-and-stick vinyl stickers vinyl-cut-decals.

5 Commonly Used Expressions in Bisaya, the Language of Cebu

5 Commonly Used Expressions in Bisaya, the Language of Cebu | Best Blog | Scoop.it
On arriving at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, the Philippines’ national capital, or at the Mactan-Cebu International airport in Cebu, where the Global Voices Citizen Media Summit will be held, foreign visitors to the Philippines will discover that English is widely used and spoken.

All airport signs, including advertising posters and banners, are accompanied by English translations, and most of the airport staff speak English quite fluently. And on leaving the airport, you'd find the same to be generally true, especially in commercial establishments and tourist hotspots.

Most Filipinos know how to speak a little English, if not other European or Asian languages such as Chinese, Japanese, German, Spanish, French and Italian. “Hi”, “Hello”, and “Goodbye” are common words in everyday conversation among locals. Traffic signs, official documents, books and magazines, and the leading newspapers are also mostly presented in English—one of the legacies of the country’s former colonial master, the United States of America.

In fact, along with Filipino, English is designated by the 1987 Philippine Constitution as the country's official language. So long as you know some English you can be confident that you'll be able to travel around the city without encountering serious language barriers.

But you never know when a little Bisaya, the local language in Cebu, might come in handy. So here are some of the most commonly used expressions in Bisaya:

Thank You
Salamat
Good Morning / Good Afternoon / Good Evening
Maayo’ng Buntag / Maayo’ng Hapon / Maayo’ng Gabii
Please
Palihug
How much is this?
Tagpila ni?
Where is _______________?
Ex. Where is the Basilica del Sto. Niño?

Diin / Asa ang _______________?Diin ang Basilica del Sto. Niño?Asa ang Basilica del Sto. Niño?
Bisaya is also spoken in the neighboring islands of Bohol and Siquijor and in parts of the islands of Negros, Leyte, and Mindanao. It is one of the five main regional languages in the Philippines along with Tagalog, Hiligaynon, Waray, and Iloko. The national language Filipino is based mainly on Tagalog but also incorporates words from the other regional languages. There are over a hundred languages and dialects spoken across the Philippine archipelago.

Some commonly used Filipino words that can be understood almost anywhere in the country would include the term bayad (pay or payment), the greeting mabuhay (the imperative form of “live”), and padayon (continue or carry on). You can also learn more about the Philippines’ indigenous languages during this Global Voices Summit session.

New painting welcomes visitors to Ann Arbor in 10 different languages

New painting welcomes visitors to Ann Arbor in 10 different languages | Best Blog | Scoop.it
ANN ARBOR, MI – There's a new message greeting people entering Ann Arbor via Ann Arbor-Saline Road near I-94.
"Welcome" is painted in 10 different languages — along with a white dove and an olive branch — on a roadside utility box.

It's meant to show visitors that Ann Arbor is a welcoming and inclusive community, said Rebecca Arends, a local business owner who came up with the idea after doing some soul searching following last week's election.

Arends teamed up with Cate Tinsley, the owner of Olive Leaf Stencils, to bring the idea to life on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Tinsley, an artist from New York who recently relocated to Ann Arbor, used stencils she created to do the painting.

"It was Rebecca's idea, but to me, it's a very hard-to-misinterpret symbol of peace and acceptance to show that there are still some of us who dream of a planet without borders," Tinsley said, adding such a message seems especially important due to recent hate crimes around the country.

Arends notes her great-grandmother immigrated to Michigan from Austria in the early part of the 20th century. Her mother came to Ann Arbor in 1975.

"I was the first of my family to be born here," Arends said, adding she's a better person for having lived in a compassionate community that values diversity.

"We truly are stronger together," she said. "No matter what your beliefs, I want the visitors to Ann Arbor to feel welcome. That is our identity as a town, and it's reflected in many of our choices we make with our voting patterns and actions of our elected leaders in City Council. We can all lead by example and maintain our commitment to openness and inclusiveness."

Arends, who has been using Tinsley's stencils to paint murals around town, said they were given permission from DTE Energy and the Ann Arbor Police Department to paint the "welcome" message on Tuesday. She said the supplies were covered by a donor who wants to remain anonymous.

Members of the Ann Arbor community have been finding different ways to stand against acts of hate and bigotry being reported across the nation.

The Ann Arbor-based Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice and the Interfaith Round Table of Washtenaw County launched a campaign earlier this year to spread signs and banners to counteract anti-refugee and anti-Muslim rhetoric that became prominent in the presidential campaign.

Many local congregations are now displaying banners that read "One Human Family: We support refugees and our Muslim neighbors." And many homes across the county have yard signs with the same message.

Now that there are more reports of anti-Muslim and anti-refugee attacks and hate speech since Donald Trump won the presidential election last week, supporters of the One Human Family campaign are planning to gather Thursday night, Nov. 17, for an organizing meeting in Ann Arbor to figure out ways the broader community can stand in support of inclusion and push back against intolerance.

Big changes in solitary confinement for California's juvenile halls

Big changes in solitary confinement for California's juvenile halls | Best Blog | Scoop.it
At Sacramento's Youth Detention Facility there is no room for solitary confinement, so if a kid acts up and gets in trouble they go back to the room where they live and where they sleep. The facility isn't Disneyland for bad kids, but it isn't your average "juvie." "What these kids need is normalcy to some degree," Assistant Chief Probation Officer Mike Shores said. He oversees the facility and thinks programming can make kids change and not come back. "I think we are doing some really innovative and unique things, "Shores said. "I cant speak for all the juvenile halls across the state or the country but what we are trying to do is just do good work with kids." As he walked us through the facility, a guest speaker was talking to a gymnasium full of kids. After that we visited a garden program and the Boys and Girls Club. "There are a lot of things that we do, that are really pro-social, lets us just keep a kid active. Ideally it's fun and educational, ultimately it's something that they can learn while they are here and will change their behavior," Shores told us. The facility has so many programs going on at the same time, Shores said it is hard to keep track. From raising crops to training dogs, the staff thinks teaching empathy and responsibility is crucial. Shores said evidence shows being punitive toward adolescents doesn't work, but rewards do. The facility can hold up to 224 boys and girls. Shores said it is difficult to track if this idea of taking away freedom and replacing it with positive activities to change behavior works, but he thinks it does because less kids are returning. While Shores believes in his program, he says the facility is still a juvenile hall, and that if the kids want the incentives offered, they have to follow the rules. Taking away fun programs and other methods of discipline are used before a juvenile is put in confinement or a locked room. But if a juvenile is violent and uncontrollable, solitary is necessary. Shores said they can be there for up to 24 hours, but it is rare. In 2010 average room confinement for a juvenile at Sacramento's YDF was 125 hours a month and now it is 15 hours. With Gov. Brown signing SB 124 making max solitary confinement time max out at four hours, it might be more like a 'time out.' Shores said the transition will be easy for them. "The policy changes we made really sets us up well ahead to be in compliance with the law," Shores said. Not YDF in California is the same, 2018 will be the test if doing without solitary for juveniles will work.
