Dr. Deborah Brennan's curator insight, April 2, 2015 9:45 AM

The academic achievement gap in poverty schools coupled with the pressure of school ranking based upon standardized tests causes many educators to focus mainly on the academic needs of students.  many of our poverty students lack the Emotional Intelligence that provides an avenue for academic success.  We must build an awareness of emotional intelligence and then build this in our students just as we build their cognitive intelligence

Denver Leigh Watson, M.Ed, LDTC's curator insight, April 2, 2015 11:26 AM

How does this fit into your leadership framework? Do your arrows flow in the same direction? Does it matter? I believe self-management is the key to the flow, impact, and goal of change for leadership. For me, this is box #1 ... where's yours?

Annie M Herbert's curator insight, December 16, 2013 9:45 PM

Sounds like a great place to start students understanding what their emotional intelligence is.  Need to convince students that emotional intelligence makes a difference.

What a quote:

"Your ability to concentrate on the work you're doing or your schoolwork, and to put off looking at that text or playing that video game until after you're done ... how good you are at that in childhood turns out to be a stronger predictor of your financial success in adulthood than either your IQ or the wealth of the family you grew up in,"

Another great quote:

When an emotionally intelligent person experiences a failure or setback, he or she is able to bounce back quickly. This is in part because of the ability to mindfully experience negative emotions without letting them get out of control, which provides a higher degree of resilience.

What does it mean to be a great leader? I think it is sign of emotional intelligence and so hard to define.

Our approach for shaping the resulting empathy toolkit was to gather additional existing research and collaborate with other knowledge experts within the company.

We then coordinated a beta program for the toolkit to test the content and the toolkit format with designers and engineers.

At the same time, we also validated some user assumptions with a quantitative survey of the clients current customer base.
