These Islands Look Too Good To Be True

These Islands Look Too Good To Be True | Bequia - All the Best! | Scoop.it

The 32-island chain is extraordinarily underdeveloped (meaning more natural beauty for visitors to enjoy) and is well-known for their impeccable diving, sailing and sandy white beaches. So, yea, basically, combine all those other interests into one awesome country.

Forgotten Paradise: Canouan Island

Forgotten Paradise: Canouan Island | Bequia - All the Best! | Scoop.it

Canouan is just five square miles in size and formerly a community of sailors and fishermen.

The now expanding local populous still includes fishermen, proud of their community heritage as boat builders and harvesters of the sea. Models of the traditional wooden boats are still lovingly constructed by hand.

Laughter prevails as a vital ingredient of this community, and the sounds of happy children and elders create a feeling of traveling into an easier place and time.

Canouan manages to retain a distinct quality inherited from another time in history, another age.

6 of the Grenadines you won't want to miss

6 of the Grenadines you won't want to miss | Bequia - All the Best! | Scoop.it
Over 6,000 islets make up the Grenadines’ island chain in the Caribbean, with each one just as beautiful as the next. All of the islands come surrounded by a halo of white beaches and waters covering the full spectrum of colours from blue to green and beyond. Once on the ground though, the contrast between the islets is much wider and we definitely recommend you island hop around a few to get a true taste for the Grenadines. Of the main islands, here are a few that stand out…

The island is approximately 3 miles long and 1 mile wide, surrounded by crystal clear waters and other islets like Tobago Cays and Palm Island.

The history of this island is rooted in its age-old traditions such as boat building, fishing and whaling. Today, it provides a safe bay for yachties and travelers in search of the offbeat Caribbean.

Sailing region: Southern Caribbean

In cruise line terms the Southern Caribbean is a bit of a catch phrase – some of the islands aren't really south – but the big plus of these itineraries is they generally call at less-crowded places.

The down side is because of the distance to the islands you'll likely have to fly to San Juan or elsewhere to start your cruise.

Small ship lines tend to focus on Southern Caribbean routes because their passengers are drawn to posh St. Barts and such low-key places as Nevis and the islands of the Grenadines.

Southern Caribbean cruises from San Juan typically head to Aruba, Curaçao, and neighboring islands. Small ships embark from St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Barbados and other ports, and visit even more remote places such as the British Virgin Islands, St. Barts, Nevis, and the Grenadines.

Longer itineraries – some from Florida ports – may include Grenada and Barbados. The cruises are year-round, but there are more options in the winter months.
