Snapshots of Everyday Life in Paris ~ Ben Landa Studios | Ben Landa Studio | Scoop.it

Ben Landa Studios ,The photo workshop continues. We are all having so much fun roaming the streets of Paris for miles every day. Spending a week with people who share the same passion for photography is so awesome. I don’t shoot much when I teach a workshop but I grab a shot here and there with my little Fuji x100s whenever the opportunity arises. Do you have any favorites in the series below? Please leave a comment :)

Fujifilm X-T1 compact system camera | Ben Landa Studios | Ben Landa Studio | Scoop.it

Ben Landa Studios
Should you buy it?

Our overall experience with this camera was a positive one and we think it's a great piece of kit. We're happy to recommend it to anyone who favours tactile, labelled controls over screens and menu systems (though you can still use the screen and menu on this if you wish), but the cost is the main issue. Equivalent pricing ($2000) can get you a fairly substantial Canon EOS digital SLR kit, such as an EOS 70D with a couple of lenses. But that sort of camera might not give you the same level of satisfaction as the X-T1. The X-T1 is more interesting due to its body size, excellent image performance, and in-your-face features. It's an elegant camera that people will look at and then proceed to ask you questions about it. It definitely stands out in such a crowded marketplace and, to us at least, this means that Fujifilm is onto a good thing.....Ben Landa Studios

Meet the Leica Meet: Stephen Cosh, The Old City | Ben Landa Studios | Ben Landa Studio | Scoop.it

Ben Landa Studios ,This interview is part of a series in which Olaf Willoughby talks with Leica Meet members about their photographic projects, their stories, goals and learnings along the way. Here Olaf interviews Stephen Cosh, a photographer from Scotland who, inspired by a book, has embarked on a long journey to capture the humanity of the city of Jerusalem. Q: Tell us about your project. What’s its title and main theme? A: The project is simply called “Jerusalem.” I came up with the idea after reading Jerusalem by Simon Sebag Montefiore. Once I finished the book I knew I had to get out there and shoot it, so I booked a four day trip in February 2014, packed two cameras and two lenses and lots of film and got on a plane. What I am trying to capture in the project is the humanity of the city -- how its history has shaped the town and its people. I’m not sure I’ve succeeded yet. It will require many more trips out there and I’m determined to make that happen. Q: [.Ben Landa Studios..]

Seal your precious moments with our state of the art studio or at a location of your choice. With the vast array of low priced digital cameras available on the market, people are tempted to use their ownpoint and shoot cameras, but there are many advantages between hiring a professional against doing it yourself. Sony Alpha a7: A Travel Photographer's Dream Camera? | Ben Landa Studio | Ben Landa Studio | Scoop.it

Ben Landa Studio About a month ago, I mentioned in this article that the folks at Sony had shipped me one of their new Sony Alpha a7 cameras to test drive during our trip to Alaska. While I normally travel with one lens (an 18-200mm zoom) on my Nikon, the folks at Sony sent me an 28-70mm zoom for my test drive. While I suppose the definition of a travel photographer’s dream camera might vary from photographer to photographer, I was looking for fantastic quality captures from a lightweight package that could also produce wonderful video. My Nikon delivers fantastic photographs, but it is heavy and the video capabilities (primarily because of poor focus capabilities in video mode) were considerably lacking. On May 17th, 2014, we sailed into Sitka aboard the Silversea Cruises Silver Shadow.  It was a beautiful day, and figuring that I wouldn’t need a 200mm zoom, I opted to take the Sony out for a stroll. Filters: Part 2 | Ben Landa Studio

Filters: Part 2 | Ben Landa Studio | Ben Landa Studio | Scoop.it

Ben Landa Studio Put simply Neutral Density or ND filters reduce the amount of light entering the lens. They are available in different optical densities and are usually described/quantified by their f-stop reduction. I use these types of filters in one of 2 ways. Either to enable me to shoot at a wider apertures in bright conditions and give me greater DOF control, or for me more commonly to shoot with a longer shutter speed (long exposures), usually for landscape photography. A Graduated Neutral Density filter is similar to a regular ND filter except the intensity varies across the surface of the filter. This is useful when one region of the image is bright and the rest is not, such as the sky in a sunset/sunrise landscape scene. I often use this type of filter for landscape photography, and often conjunction with an ND filter. There are also variable ND filters available, which offer a lot more flexibility over carrying around various filters of different densities. I have limited experience with variable ND’s but each time I have used one I have experienced various issues including a loss of image quality. I have tried a number of different brands, all without success.........http://www.benlandastudios.com/

Ben Landa Studio .We were lucky enough to spend a long weekend in Venice recently. This was a joint celebration for my mums 60th Birthday and my Aunt taking part in the annual Vogalonga boat race. We have wanted to go to Venice for a long time and were not disappointed. Arriving in Venice is like arriving on a film set. It is like no where else in the world I have been. Its an incredibly beautiful city with lots of culture and amazing architecture. We were treated to four days of perfect weather with blue skies and bright sunshine. Venice is the perfect place just to wonder and get lost. Exploring the alleyways and weaving around the canals is a lot of fun. I took my trusty Xpro1 along to keep the weight down. There were so many incredible sights I didn't know where to point my camera, it really is one of the most photogenic cities I have visited. Here is a selection of my favourite shots from our trip. All taken with the Fuji X-Pro1 with XF 35mm & XF 18mm lenses and edited with VSCO Film......

Ben Landa Studios-Street Photography Course in Budapest and a Fuji X Pro 1 | Keith Moss | Ben Landa Studio | Scoop.it

Ben Landa Studios This is my 4th day designing a street photography course in Budapest, my companion, for this trip a Fuji X-Pro 1 Its another searingly hot day with very little breeze, it’s in the mid 30s with a high humidity, quite unpleasant for this chap from England, nevertheless I want to explore  the Jewish Quarter. Budapest has the largest Jewish community in Central Europe so I head  there to check it out. My first port of call is the Great Synagogue, a magnificent looking building from the outside and  literature tells me that it is one of the largest synagogue in Europe. As a street photographer  I wouldn’t normally pay to enter a tourist attraction but this is more than that,  I wanted to find out about the history.  It costs 2800 Hufs to enter which is about £8 at the current exchange rate. I have to say it is worth it. It’s stunning inside, almost theatre-esk with its balconies and what look like private boxes that seem to go all around, it beautiful and ornate. You are also allowed to take photographs as long as you don’t use flash. On entering all ladies have to cover their shoulders and the men must wear a Kippah which are provided. Part of the entrance fee allows you to go to the Jewish museum which has important pieces of art from Hungary and Eastern Europe. Part of the museum has quite shocking images of the persecution of Jews suffered during the war........http://www.benlandastudios.com/

Ben Landa With a few weeks to go before the end of May, when I was due to fly out to Istanbul for a summer internship, I found that I was in the market for a new camera. I’ve been a Sony shooter for the past four years, and since I would be photographing quite a lot for the internship, I wanted to have another camera. If my a580 bit the dust, it would be far too expensive to replace it here in Istanbul, and I couldn’t take that chance. I was caught between an a99 and any of Fujifilm’s offerings. http://www.benlandastudios.com .

Over the last couple of months I have been playing around a lot with the Fuji XT1 camera that I got when I was out in Dubai.  I have been on a campaign to tell everyone about how well that this camera has been performing.  It’s been a completely different experience for me – finally a small portable camera that has a great featureset and amazing image quality. Not too long ago, the folks over at Fuji asked if I would be interested in taking their new 18-135 Weather Resistant lens out for a spin and see what kind of images I would get of it.  I jumped at the opportunity.  I figured after some playing around i would share my findings – grouped in projects from “Oh, that’s nice – a little sprinkle” to “Man, you shouldn’t even be out there in that weather.” I wont focus too much on the technical particulars out there – I’ll just give my anecdotal experiences and share the images I did so that you may be the judge of it.

Silhouetted figures have spawned images far and wide. Around the world several times and they never cease to be amazing, beautiful and tell a story. Here's some inspiration for this weekend.
