As a part of the Wildlife Emergency Response Team (WERT) we got the call to go help in securing and ensuring the safety of an 8.5 foot crocodile that found its way into Belize City by way of underground canals and culverts.

Between Evan Sims from the American Crocodile Education Sanctuary (ACES), Gordon Kirkwood, Graeme Kirkwood and Will Moreno from the Wildlife Emergency Response Team (WERT) they managed to immobilize this magnificent yet powerful creature for the safety of the public and the safety of the crocodile. We are happy to report that the crocodile has been relocated to the Crodile Sanctuary for further evaluation and future release.

That is so nice that they don't just kill the crocodile instead they move it to a new home.  That must be so hard get a crocodile and not having it bite you or somthing.  That Wildlife Emergency Response Team would realy need to know what thare doing.  Knowing me I would have the hardest time to deal with wild animals like that.

Chaa Creek's Eco Kids Summer Camp

There's still time to submit essays for Chaa Creek's Children’s Summer Camp Scholarship Program.  They have a short video out about the program.

"Every year we team up with a number of private sector businesses to offer a weeklong summer camp scholarship program for Belize's resident school children between the ages of 8 to 13 years old in order to educate them about biodiversity, natural resource conservation, the ancient Maya, traditional healing, and the three "R's" Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.  The program aims to install memorable values that will have an impact on the way children conduct their lives, their relationship with our fragile Earth, and the sustainable development of our future."

In related news, they have another submission for the essay competition.

An Ideal treat: one of Belize's iconic frozen snacks.

An Ideal treat: one of Belize's iconic frozen snacks. | Belize Food | Scoop.it

Behold the incredible edible plastic bag of bliss known to Belizean children across the country as an ideal. This sweet frozen treat is usually made with flavoured, brightly colored snowcone sugar syrups mixed with water and poured into small plastic bags, knotted shut and stuffed in the back of someone's freezer until an overheated schoolkid shows up at their door with a shilling and a quest for something cold, sweet and refreshing. While ideals could easily be made with real fruit juice, I have never seen one.

Oxtail soup recipe for the rainy days

Oxtail soup recipe for the rainy days | Belize Food | Scoop.it

The great thing about this oxtail soup recipe is that it gets put together very quickly and the simplicity of cooking in one pot, versatile enough to either slow simmer over the stove or chucking it into the oven while woolgathering. It doesn't matter how the vegetables are chopped. Lazily and roughly, however you like it. The result will be rather impressive.

June marks the start of the rainy season, a season to spent more time at home. We are greeted with rain this weekend and I can't think of a better dish to celebrate the wet and gloom days. Rich, lush, intense, with layers of concentrated, deep dark, velvety flavour. When grilled bread is the muse, Slurping and dipping warm crusty bread into a bowl of good, hearty, hot oxtail soup.

Wishing you all a Terrific Day with a lovely scenery in Crooked Tree Village.
The water in the lagoon is extremely low and birds are far and few in between but the landscape still offers its beauty to be captured.

Cashew Festival in Crooked Tree is a Sweet Time in Belize

Cashew Festival in Crooked Tree is a Sweet Time in Belize | Belize Food | Scoop.it

Cashews, Cashews and more Cashews is the reason for this two day festival held annually in Crooked Tree around the end of May which is held during the season for this awkward fruit. Awkward in the sense that its a fruit unlike many other fruits that has it seed growing on the outside and not on the inside. Crooked Tree is well known around the world for being a Bird Sanctuary but its a place also known for its Sweet Cashews and Cashew byproducts...

Shark Tagging in Belize

Shark Tagging in Belize | Belize Food | Scoop.it

Being tasked with documenting Rachel Graham's shark tagging project at Lighthouse Atoll, Belize for the second year, I wanted to capture a closeup of how the tags look on the shark. Now remember, these sharks are first hooked, then restrained, measured and tagged, all the while struggling and thrashing to be free of lines and hands.

Mountain Pine Ridge Art Camp Video by www.mcagodz.com

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Program of Belize released a great video about their Summer Art Camp, which is for youth between the ages of 14 and 17.  It starts next Monday, June 8th, and MPR is the base for the camp, so the youths will experience nature in one of Belize's nicest reserves.  There are a few spots left.  Rio On Pools is the star of the video that Help International put together.

"This camp is for youth ages 14 to 17 who want to tap into their inner artist and creative learning process.  All week long youth will be in the jungle, learning how to enhance their skills in painting, writing, cooking, and music. At night there will be campfires and games to build friendships and make memories that will last forever.  This is an incredible experience all for $200.  That includes your transportation there and back, your three meals for the day, accommodation, and supplies for classes.  If you are interested in joining us please let Nehanda Higinio know by cell phone at 624-9112 or email at nehandaorange@hotmail.com and she will get you registered and signed up!" www.mcagodz.com
