Wow ... kudos to Dr. Oz for trying to understand what it feels like to be overweight. I think this experiment will give him a much better insight into the lives of people who are bigger, and make him better able to help him.

My only complaint about this was that he had to wear such ugly clothes. Just because a person is bigger, it doesn't mean they need to wear ugly sweat clothes!

What Facebook, Twitter, Tinder, Instagram, and Internet Porn Are Doing to America’s Teenage Girls

What Facebook, Twitter, Tinder, Instagram, and Internet Porn Are Doing to America’s Teenage Girls | Beautiful Wednesdays | Scoop.it
With the rise of social media, young men are taught that they have the right to expect everything from submission to sex from their female peers. What is this doing to our young women?

Via Katerina Dimitriou
Sharilee Swaity's insight:

Teen girls are feeling incredible pressure to not only perfect, but to partake in sexually promiscuous activity to prove their worth to boys, and to the world.

The dark side of social media.

Katerina Dimitriou's curator insight, October 6, 2013 5:15 AM

Seeking attention by posting provocative pictures,  trying to look like the girls and boys  on TV,  stalking  facebook profiles, texting relations and  moving fast on to the next person.  The thinking is: “If I’m in control of it, then it’s ok. Just a button to turn it off.”  But what we’re seeing is depression, anxiety, feelings of rejection, feelings of isolation and body-image issues. Technology make available objectifying  ourselves, having a false sense of self control and control of others and  treating others with lack of empathy – ignoring their feelings-

Eating disorder experts slam social media for fueling thigh gap trend

Eating disorder experts slam social media for fueling thigh gap trend | Beautiful Wednesdays | Scoop.it
Some exceptionally thin models have the gap, which is upheld as a beauty achievement on countless Tumblr pages, blogs and other social media sites.

Via Jocelyn Stoller
Sharilee Swaity's insight:

The latest trend in appearance standards for young women? It's called the thigh gap -- obtaining the elusive gap between the top of their legs.

The goal is fuelled by these girls looking to impossibly thin models as their role models.

The obsession is fuelled by social media, and is causing eating disorders, and possibly even death in some cases.

This is tragic, mad, and needs to stop. Girls, you are beautiful, no matter the size of your thighs.

Why Being Nice Makes You Fat

Why Being Nice Makes You Fat | Beautiful Wednesdays | Scoop.it

by Marcia Sirota, MD FRPC

"You probably know someone in your life who is really, really nice. (Maybe it’s you?) This person is so nice that no-one has ever seen them angry or even a little bit irritated.

They’re always eager to please, and if a misunderstanding should arise between themselves and someone else, they try ever so hard to placate the other person, hoping to make the problem go away.

You must have also seen people taking advantage of this person’s kindness, often treating them with disrespect or even contempt. The more they try to please, the less respect these nice folk seem to get."

Via PAT NOVAK
