Dream’s New Beginning: Recovery After Life on a Bear Farm

Dream’s New Beginning: Recovery After Life on a Bear Farm | Bears | Scoop.it

"In November, 2011 Animals Asia rescued fourteen moon bears (Asiatic black bears-also called moon bears due to the yellow crescent on their chests) from a bear bile farm in Binh Duong Province, South Vietnam. In parts of Asia, beautiful, sweet, and sensitive moon bears are held in cages and painfully milked for their bile for as long as thirty years. The bile is used in traditional Asian medicine, despite the existence of many herbal alternatives. As many as 14,000 moon bears are currently living in cruel confines on bear farms today. Through its End Bear Farming program, Animals Asia works with government officials and farmers to end this cruel practice, housing rescued bears in our China and Vietnam Bear Rescue Centers–tranquil and expansive sanctuaries where the bears may live out the rest of their lives in peace and safety..."

Sadie bear's insight:

two disfigured legs, one missing paw, broken bones and decaying teeth. these are all examples of what could happen in a bear farm. Dream, the bear they rescued, had all of these symptoms of abuse. it took alot of work to get her back on her feet. she underwent mental abuse as wells as physical.

Grizzly bears are powerful, and can be found on the top-of-the-food-chain as main preditors. but it might come to shock to most that  much of their diet consists of nuts, berries, fruit, leaves, and roots. Bears also eat other animals, from rodents to moose.

the Circus can be a great place to go and have fun. Odds are, you have no clue what goes on behind the tent walls. animals are not meant to be traveling performers. they spend a mojority of time living in tiny cages and undergoing extreme measures of abuse.

Sadie bear's insight:

living in a tiny cage from birth, and taken from their mothers. they are able to live like this for 20 years, while they get drained for fluids that have the power to benifit those who dont need it. their bare bile can help a majority of problems from hangover to cancer. i agree that it is good to help those in need. but it is not okay to help, while you are killing off another species. such a selfish act.

How to Draw a Panda

How to Draw a Panda | Bears | Scoop.it
A panda looks like a bear with a black and white color. They are very cute in cartoons and in reality they look really nice and cuddly -- but they can be very aggressive at times when scared, shocked or irritated.

Jerome Okutho's curator insight, December 5, 2013 4:19 PM

Pandas are relatively easy to draw. Just imagine drawing a white bear then adding a few black patterns and you pretty much have a picture of a panda. This tutorial explains exactly how to draw a panda from scratch, whether it's for a cartoon or a personal art project.

The tutorial is divided into two parts - the first part covers how to draw a cartoon panda while the second part talks about how to draw a realistic panda. The steps are so easy even your child can complete them.

Animals Can Be Ambassadors For Forgiveness, Generosity, Peace, Trust, and Hope

Animals Can Be Ambassadors For Forgiveness, Generosity, Peace, Trust, and Hope | Bears | Scoop.it

I wonder what Jasper, Aussie, and other moon bears carry in their head - what remnants of unspeakable abuse and trauma remain. Perhaps they also talk about how lucky they are to have been rescued and that not all humans are bad, that they can trust some of us. Many of the bears have been able to get over a lot of what they experienced, at least overtly, and depend on the trust, loyalty, and love that they've developed over time with the same mammalian species - human beings - who couldn't care less about their well-being.

Via For The Voiceless
Sadie bear's insight:

i wonder if moon bears corry emotions about being thankful. do they realise they have been rescued or do they just think every bear goes through this type of life. what big greatful giants. i would love to work with moon bears
