The Open University is not only the organization pushing the development and innovation of the Quiz Module for Moodle, it’s also recently provided one of the best primers for learning about Moodle’s quiz, the pedagogical theory behind assessment, and showcases the many OU create question types as well. The module is freely available to registered users (and has been posted to Moodle.net), and they estimate about 3 hours to complete it. The conditional release of materials will help to keep you on track.
Good to read some figures on Distance learning in the UK. Important quote at the end: "The opportunities to democratise education are enormous. But given that providers do not have a business model through which they can make money from free courses, it may not be the death of distance learning just yet."
