9 Lessons I Have Learned After Two Years of Blogging

9 Lessons I Have Learned After Two Years of Blogging | Be a Better Blogger | Scoop.it

Blog post at Productive Superdad : On the 31st of December, 2010, I published my first post on this blog. Ever since then I have been blogging on a frequent basis...

3. Get a coach from the get-go

This is one of the things I wish I had done when I started blogging: Hired a coach.

Although I hired some temporary help when launching my blog in 2011 (and to which I was happy with), I still wanted something more.

In January 2012 this changed, as I started  working with Danny Iny and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

Coaching has made a huge difference in my productivity as I’m able to focus on things that are truly important.

It’s also a great way to test new ideas: I might have a crazy plan in my head which I pitch to Danny. If he thinks the idea is not so great, I put that on hold or get it off of my list completely. This is a huge time saver and I can keep on track without any extra distractions.

Although coaching is expensive, it’s also a much faster way to get to your destination. Besides, you can rarely get to your goal by buying a $19 e-book.

Here's the comment I left:

Hi Timo!
What an incredible job you have done with your blogs in the past two years! You are so right about the hard work that goes into the art of blogging and it’s really a smart idea to get help right up front. Working with Danny is a plus and having a system in place is also key.

I don’t know what I would do with out wonderful guest contributors like yourself that keep a constant stream of value-added blog posts flowing on my blog.

Thanks for all you do and best wishes for another “productive” year in 2013!

The realm of website administration is still one that’s somewhat intimidating to many, but the truth is that it’s not particularly hard nowadays to run a fairly complex blog. Thanks to nearly foolproof CMS blogging platforms like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla and even hosted solutions like Tumblr, anyone can configure a blog in minutes. While your focus should always be on content, it’s still important to fine-tune a blog’s back-end for SEO purposes. Keep these five considerations in mind when optimizing your blog...

How to Place Keywords in a Blog Post Properly | BloggingPro

How to Place Keywords in a Blog Post Properly | BloggingPro | Be a Better Blogger | Scoop.it
(Photo credit: C.P.Storm) You may have noticed that the SEO game has become a lot more difficult lately...

Mostly due to the recent algorithm updates like the Penguin and, like always, due to the ever-growing competition for valuable keywords.

However, some things remain unchanged. For instance, you still need to find a way to let Google know which keywords you’re targeting.

The fact is that Google can figure this out on their own, kind of (through links, and social media interaction), but introducing some good on-page SEO can make things a lot quicker.

You have to be careful, though. Google now openly admits that they discourage all forms of active link building, and probably any other type of active SEO work as well.

So how to overcome this and not get in trouble?...

A Year’s Worth of Actionable Blogging Tips

A Year’s Worth of Actionable Blogging Tips | Be a Better Blogger | Scoop.it

Some really good stuff!...

Organize your projects, blog posts or anything else, with Trello.

My best tip for this year is to try Trello. I blogged about my use of this service in March and have used it more and more throughout the year. The bottom line is it uses a digital notecard format to organize anything.

Quickly research the social sharing of any page with SharedCount

SharedCount is basic analytics and research tool. It tells you how often an individual page has been shared across social networks. You aren’t going to be making indepth reports with this tool, but it is good for quick research.

Never make a blog post without an image.

People like images. Perhaps more importantly, social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn pull images from your blog whenever a post is shared. Don’t give up that space. You can create a text based images in minutes to take advantage of this with Recite This.

Fill in the blogging gaps by getting personalized news to inform your curation.

As much as I would like to blog about everything that peaked my interest, there isn’t enough time in the day. I am so inquisitive, I would need a couple extra days a week. Much of the gaps are filled by being active on different social media channels. For me that is Twitter. If you are going to find things to post about it, it helps to keep up on industry news.

Compose anywhere. Have access everywhere with Evernote.

I have found this year that Evernote ends up being where I put anything that isn’t in my email program or saved to Dropbox. My normal compisition pattern is to start in Trello to organize ideas, and then I craft longer posts and reports in Evernote. Read more about how I used Evernote to blog.

How To Captivate Anyone With Your Blog Posts | Blogging Tips | Be a Better Blogger | Scoop.it

Writing a good blog post isn’t just about great content…

Writing truly engaging and exciting blog posts and marketing is an art for that involves storytelling, emotion, and creating an immersive experience for your readers.

How you structure your marketing techniques in terms of storytelling, and connecting with readers, can often leave more of an impact than the content itself (think about how a song or story touched you more because of the emotional impact than the details of the story itself).

In this post I want to share 3 tips you can use to enhance the appeal of any post you write, and make it incredibly engaging to your readers....
