Urinary Tract Infections

Symptoms and Treatments for an Urinary Tract Infection.

Haley Tanigami's insight:

Urinary Tract Infections are one of the most common disorders found in the excretory system. This disorder is most common in females because of the fact that their urethral and anal openings are very close together. This causes there to be a higher chance of bacteria from the anal opening to enter the urethral opening after a bowl movement. In fact, more than 50% of women will suffer from an urinary tract infection in their lifetime.
Symptoms of this infection include:
-Painful burning sensation during urination
-Urinating frequently
-Urine changing to a brown color & blood may be present
-Upper and lower back will be tender
-Chills, nausea, & vomiting

Although common, urinary tract infections can possisbly become serious and require surgery. The infection can end up damage to kidneys and possible kidney failure. Usually, urinary tract infections can be easily treated with an antibiotic. This medication can be perscribed by a docotor after you have been properly examined.
To prevent this disorder, maintaining personl hygiene by properly wiping from the front to back, is in order. Drinking lots of water will also help to prevent the infection by flushing out your kidneys. Cranberry juice is also known to help keep the infection away and a fast recovery if you happen to get an UTI. When you have to go, go! By holding in your urine, it becomes very easy for bacteria to develope into a full-fledged infection.

The Real Battlefront for Child Obesity
Huffington Post
The highly anticipated new book Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us hits the shelves on Tuesday, the latest salvo in the war against obesity.
Haley Tanigami's insight:

I can define obesity as basically carrying an abundance of excess body weight which could lead to a wide range of deadly diseases. Unfortunately it is becoming easier for people of all ages to reach the point of obesity. With all of the "junk food" manufactuers adding bright colors and abstract designs behind their particular product, they do a very good job at reeling you in. It becomes very hard for many people to resist the food that they want and not the food that they need. Their ads puts their product and happiness hand in hand, saying that if you eat this, you will achieve a high level of happiness in your life. This is not necassarily true.

Signs and symptoms of obesity could be found by calculating the body mass index (BMI).Also by noticing excess fat around your fat and hips. Obesity can cause aching in your back and knees from carrying around and excess amount of fat. Shortness of breath may also be a sign of obesity.

Conditions that may accompany obesity are:
High blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, just to name a few.

To help prevent this deadly disease would be to make yourself a regular exercising routine and stick to it. There are drug therapies available, dieting and surgical procedures.

An interesting fact about obesity is that in America, 60% of adult are over weight and 35% are considered to be over weight with 25% of children over weight as well. Unfortunately, there is no medication to completely help cure this deadly disease.

Anorexia nervosa - PubMed Health

Anorexia nervosa - PubMed Health | BCHS-Haley Tanigami | Scoop.it
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that makes people lose more weight than is considered healthy for their age and height.
Haley Tanigami's insight:

Anorexia Nervosa is a disease that causes people of all ages to not be able to gain enough weight for which is considered "healthy" for their age of gender. There are no known causes for anorexia however, some of these factors may be involved in the causing of it: Being more worried about you shape and size, having a negative self image, having an eating disorder early in life, or trying to be perfect when it comes to weight gain and loss.

People with Anorexia Nervosa do not eat the proper amount of food. They will limit their portions and increase their exercise to get the results they would like to see. These people usually would rather now eat infront of other people. They are most likley to visit the washroom after eating so that they can throw back up their food, in most cases.

To help cure this disease, the people will have to increase their food take in, decrease their physical activity, visit a rehab center to help with this disease.
