Moleculo is a technolgoy recently acquired by Illumina, and it offers basically the chance to get "virtual" long reads. This will be great for de novo genome assembly, metagenomics, meta-transcriptomics, RNASeq, and on and on.

 

It seems that the kits will be available at the end of 2013 or beginning of 2014. It would be great to use it for a genome shotgun project of Sugarcane!

La UN ha venido trabajando en bioinformática en diferentes pregrados que comparten asignaturas con
Diego Mauricio Riano Pachon's insight:

Next year (2013-20) at least two master programs in the area bioinformatics/computational biology will start in Bogotá, Colombia. One in Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Master in Bioinformatics) and the other in Universidad de los Andes (Master in Computational Biology). It appears that the master from UNAL is offered by the Engineering School, while the Master from UniAndes is an inter-school effort between the schools of Sciences and Engineering.

 

With no doubth, both programs will rise the quality of research in bioinformatics, computational biology and computational systems biology in the country.
