Monday Moment #7: The Long Tiled Bathroom of Yore - The Boundary Bathrooms Blog | Bathrooms | Scoop.it

If there was an award for longest bathroom then today’s Monday Moment would at least get nominated. It sort of looks like a long old age corridor that’s been repainted a dashing white and stone grey, while also being teamed with a culture clash of black and white Moroccan tiles

Thomas Paul Mulrooney's insight:

I love this bathroom, it's so basic yet absolutely stunning.

The BathroomWorld Blog: Throw Your Money Away With a £150,000 Crystal Bath

The BathroomWorld Blog: Throw Your Money Away With a £150,000 Crystal Bath | Bathrooms | Scoop.it

Catchpole & Rye, the Kent-based creators of some beautiful yet quite pricey baths, have turned their talented hands into crafting one of the most expensive baths in existence (although, as House to Home points out, Tamara Ecclestone has apparently spent £1 million on a solid crystal bath. I wonder what dad thinks!). The Saracen bath, which can only be described as ‘bling on legs’, is studded with an impressive 22,000 white Swarovski crystals that have been fixed to the cast iron bath entirely by hand. This painstaking job takes 200 hours per bath, although weirdly it’s done using a pencil covered in Bluetac.

Thomas Paul Mulrooney's insight:

The problem is, if I could afford this bath I wouldn't want to use it in fear of damaging it in some way. I'm a bit confused about it using Bluetac though, does that stay on all the time? For a £150,000 bath you'd think they'd use something different than you'd use to put a poster on the wall.

Monday Moment #5: Longing For a Topical Bath - The Boundary Bathrooms Blog

Monday Moment #5: Longing For a Topical Bath - The Boundary Bathrooms Blog | Bathrooms | Scoop.it

This bath looks like it’s been hollowed out of a natural rock formation simply for our pleasure. Relaxing in this luxurious looking bubble bath, with a warm sea breeze blowing in over the beautiful palm trees, is something we’re all allowed to dream about from time to time. Take 5 minutes and imagine you’re there, it may not do you the world of good that this bath would but at least it will cheer you up for a while, until you realise you’re not actually there! It’s not the end of the world though, get a few candles for your bathroom and you can close your eyes and picture yourself here, it’s the next best thing!

Thomas Paul Mulrooney's insight:

What I would give to have a session in this bath! Maybe I should buy a big rock and chisel away at it until I have this bath.

The BathroomWorld Blog: Bathrooms Reach The Stage In Prague

The BathroomWorld Blog: Bathrooms Reach The Stage In Prague | Bathrooms | Scoop.it

The Prague Post asks if you could imagine “your private bathroom as a theatrical stage”. I suppose many of us wouldn’t want what we get up to in the bathroom appearing on a stage in front of people, particularly not when it comes to toilets anyway! Even so, a theatrical collective called Screaming Fish is bringing its piece Bathroom Part II: Beauty, which is surprisingly the second part of a four-year-old project concerning bathrooms.

Thomas Paul Mulrooney's insight:

Sounds interesting to say the least. I suppose, if you think about it, you could do a stage performance on any topic you wish. However, if it's worth watching or not is another kettle of fish. I'd half expect someone to walk on stage and just throw toilet paper around for an hour, before simply saying "Alas, my bathroom is but a mirror for my emotions" or something along those lines.

Is the Kohler Numi the Future of Toilets? - The Boundary Bathrooms Blog

Is the Kohler Numi the Future of Toilets? - The Boundary Bathrooms Blog | Bathrooms | Scoop.it

When is a toilet much more than just a toilet? Does it matter if a toilet is full of fancy technological features or not? Don’t you just want a toilet that does the job and nothing more? In the future you may not have a choice, as the wave of high-tech toilets that were originally made popular in Japan are coming over here.

Thomas Paul Mulrooney's insight:

Toilets are now much more than your average 'do your business' and trundle off. Your toilet may one day be playing your favourite song as you sit down!

Gaming Comes to the Bathroom with Urinals that Encourage You to Play - The Boundary Bathrooms Blog

Gaming Comes to the Bathroom with Urinals that Encourage You to Play - The Boundary Bathrooms Blog | Bathrooms | Scoop.it

An American baseball team, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in Pennsylvania, has become the first team in the country to install urinal-based games in the men’s bathrooms.

This “Urinal Gaming System” works with a screen placed above the urinal, and unsurprisingly you  control the game by the direction your stream of pee is going. Basically, it makes peeing fun!

The video below shows a skiing game, and the direction you’re skiing down a mountain is directly controlled by where you direct your stream of urine into the urinal. It takes into account the speed and accuracy of your pee, so hopefully you’d improve over time! The game lasts for 55 seconds, which to me sounds like an awfully long time to be peeing but it obviously depends on how much you've been drinking. I could see myself drinking a lot of water just to have another go on the game, and maybe it would even lead to big queues for the urinals just as we tend to see with the queues outside women’s toilets.

Thomas Paul Mulrooney's insight:

Going for a pee will never be the same again!

Monday Moment #1: A Bathroom View To Aim For - The Boundary Bathrooms Blog

Monday Moment #1: A Bathroom View To Aim For - The Boundary Bathrooms Blog | Bathrooms | Scoop.it

If you were to carry out a poll Monday’s probably wouldn’t be at the top of everyone’s list of their most favourite days of the week. It’s the start of a new working week for most people, and if you’re not a massive fan of your job to begin with then starting a fresh new week doing something you dislike isn’t going to be your idea of fun. We all need to work though, there are bills to pay, but if you really can’t stomach what you do as a job then, unfortunately, it’s only up to you to make that change.

Anyway, to give you a bit of a boost we’ll post a picture of a stunning bathroom every Monday. A lot of them will probably be out of reach to your average joe, but don’t see it as something you could never have but instead something to aim for in life. We all have the power within us to be successful in life, whether that be in our career or relationships, and it’s up to you to embrace that fact and start working your way towards it.

The BathroomWorld Blog: How to Clean Your Bathroom in Under 20 Minutes

The BathroomWorld Blog: How to Clean Your Bathroom in Under 20 Minutes | Bathrooms | Scoop.it

It’s amazing how much fluff and dust builds up on surfaces like the bath and sink, mostly because it sticks to the damp surface. That’s why I've always advocated drying down surfaces after a shower or bath, leaving some time for the water vapour to go out through the windows or extractor fan (although it’s hard to completely avoid condensation). It doesn't always work out that way though, especially if you’re in a rush to leave the house. I also don’t like to spend an awful lot of time cleaning as I think there are far more constructive things to do with your time, so I try to get the bathroom clean in as little time as possible. Whereas my mum used to take hours to clean the bathroom from top to bottom, I generally take about 15 minutes and still manage to make it look nice and shiny.

Thomas Paul Mulrooney's insight:

I think we can all agree that cleaning a bathroom is a pretty dull job, but what if you could do it in record time? Thankfully this article tells you how to do get it sparkling clean in under 20 minutes.

The BathroomWorld Blog: Flush For Good Campaign Bringing Proper Sanitation and Toilets to the Developing World

The BathroomWorld Blog: Flush For Good Campaign Bringing Proper Sanitation and Toilets to the Developing World | Bathrooms | Scoop.it

American Standard is a manufacturer of plumbing fixtures, such as toilets and taps, although their co-ownedIdeal Standard company is more relevant to this blog because it operates in the UK. They are currently running a campaign on Facebook called Flush For Good. This campaign has come about to tackle the need for more toilets and proper sanitation in developing countries, a campaign that’s very much needed as the sad figure of 2,000 children dying each die due to a lack of proper sanitation very much shows. That’s 3 children every minute, and a massive 1.5 billion other people missing out on the sanitation systems that we take for granted.

Thomas Paul Mulrooney's insight:

This is a campaign we can all get behind, especially as all you need to do to help is like or share a page on Facebook. We do that all the time, so one more click shouldn't hurt.

Going To The Toilet In Space Takes Some Work! - The Boundary Bathrooms Blog

Going To The Toilet In Space Takes Some Work! - The Boundary Bathrooms Blog | Bathrooms | Scoop.it

Today marks 52 years since Russian cosmonaut Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin became the first human to travel into outer space, completing a full orbit of the Earth. He must have been quite scared to accomplish such a heroic feat, but he couldn’t exactly go to the toilet if he suddenly had a case of the runs as his space capsule was tiny. If he were still alive today (he sadly died in a plane crash during training) he would probably be impressed at how far space exploration has come, especially with the International Space Station now a permanently manned pinnacle of human achievement. Of all the questions that you can ask of today’s astronauts though I don’t think Yuri would be first asking how they manage to go to the toilet, although for everyone else it seems to be the most popular question.

Thomas Paul Mulrooney's insight:

The answer to the question that all of us were thinking about but didn't want to ask.

The BathroomWorld Blog: Fitbit Aria Wi-Fi Smart Bathroom Scales - The Future of Cutting Down on Cakes

The BathroomWorld Blog: Fitbit Aria Wi-Fi Smart Bathroom Scales - The Future of Cutting Down on Cakes | Bathrooms | Scoop.it

We’re living in a present where everything seems to be able to connect to the Internet, and while we’re patiently waiting for a Wi-Fi enabled toothbrush we can now look down at our bathroom scales with the knowledge that our weight is being turned into little bits of virtual data and transported across the world. If you like the sound of that then you may be willing to pay £99 for the Fitbit Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale.

Thomas Paul Mulrooney's insight:

I would buy these as I think it's a neat idea, but I'm not willing to pay £99 for them. I can see bathroom scales like this being the norm in the future anyway.

The BathroomWorld Blog: Going Green in the Bathroom: 5 Simple Environmentally Friendly Ways

The BathroomWorld Blog: Going Green in the Bathroom: 5 Simple Environmentally Friendly Ways | Bathrooms | Scoop.it

It seems we’re forever hearing about ‘going green’ in the media these days; whether that is to stop pumping so much pollution in the air or apparently staving off the effects of global warming. Of course, there are plenty of good reasons to go green; most importantly being that the environment does need protecting and even the little things you do in your daily life can contribute towards it. That should be reason enough, but going green also has the benefits of a healthier environment and being able to save money to live a more economical life. There are always alternative approaches to doing things other than the normal way, and the bathroom is no exception.

We've assembled a few ideas on how to go green in the bathroom below, gleaned from things we already do and suggestions that we’ll no doubt be doing ourselves as soon as we get home. Just installed that new bathroom suite? Start down the green route from the get-go.

Thomas Paul Mulrooney's insight:

It doesn't matter if you believe in Global Warming or not, we should all do our part to look after the environment. It doesn't have to be something major either, simply changing some small things in your bathroom is contributing towards making a better world for generations to come.
